Is There Such a Thing?

Tara? Andrew? Spirit? Mary? Dave? Anyone Else?

Okay For Years I was and still am a member of alanon, a program for family members of alcoholics....and a great program I might add....it's been around for years...and really helps wives/children families cope in positive ways with an alcoholic in the family. Now was there ever such a program/support group for families or loved ones with ADD? I ask because lately we seem to be getting a lot of new people, without ADD asking for suggestions as to how to cope with their loved ones who do have ADD. It would be nice if THEY had a support group to attend. Any such thing? :D I mean we must drive them nuts sometimes, right??? Just kidding, of course...I speak for myself only....

I know CHADD hosts a lot of support groups for parents.

Support for adults with AD/HD is still pretty new itself. We as ADDults still need to advocate for ourselves. We as a group have come a long way though.

I think Family members and partners of ADDults also need to advocate for themselves and maybe start their own support groups. I know that there are a handful of online support groups for partners of ADDers. I am the owner of one of them too.

In one of the 1st sessions that I went to at the ADDA conference there was non-ADD husband who was looking for resources too. He actually ended up pulling together a session for non-ADD partners at the conference too.

In Dr Hallowell's closing speech he also mentioned that he was thinking about adding some sort of spousal support at his clinic.

From what I understand next years ADDA conference will also be focusing more on spousal support.

Hi!

I am in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and the Calgary ADD-Anon group that co-faciliator Doug and I got started about 2 years ago has had a rocky journey.

I am pleased to say - the meetings have resumed on a more regular basis - however the new co-facilitator Tim & I are wondering if we can get anyone to help us locate the "organization" of ADD-Anon - we found some material dating back to 1996 and I noticed these two emails are dated from 2003. And now it is 2008.

So anyhow, I am very excited that we have a membership of SIX now.

We look forward to our journeys and experiencing success in our ADD recoveries.

Thank you for reading and I hope I get a reply from someone who can help us.

Cheerio!
