View Full Version : ADHD and Obsessing over hot actors

How many of you obsess over a particular acter every now and then? I know this is a passing thing as every once in awhile I hyperfocus on one thing only to wake up one day and the obsession is gone.

Anyway, I saw Cold Mountain a couple of weeks ago. I cannot get over how HOT Jude Law is :p . I mean everytime I see a picture of that man he takes my breath away.

Maybe I liked the character he played...I sure didn't like him in the Road to Pardition with Tom Hanks. Eew. Do you remember or have you seen that movie? He was scary.

Are any of you girls like that? Is this an ADHD symptom? I know women think Jude Law is hot, but my gosh, will this end???

It's not a symptom that is found in the diagnostic criteria but obesessing or "ruminating" is very common for people with AD/HD. If you add anxiety to the pitcure then yes it's a huge problem.

Oh yeah, I obsess and ruminate. For a while it was someone I knew...not okay because he was married and so am I and I saw him every once in a while...had to try not to blush knowing what I'd been thinking since the last time I saw him. (gasp!) Lately my mind has been wandering to Alan Rickman, what can I say, I like them older...wink wink nudge nudge. When I'm in touch with reality I can back off and just appreciate the talent. Sometimes though, the thoughts are excessive, way too excessive.

[Hope drools eternal] Yes... George Clooney. He has my vote. And there was a movie John Cusak was in that I found him and his pouty lips terribly attractive. Then a few years later, he was still attractive but not attacktively attractive. ;)

Who could be sexier than Bruce Willies?
Anyway, I don't think I have that problem with actors.
However, once in while, I meet someone (hubby's friend or co-worker, swimming teacher, etc., for example) that takes my sleep away and seems to be stocked in my mind. In think, in my case is truly a symptom of OCD because I try not to think of him, and there he is, and it is very disturbing. I feel bad because I am married and I love my husband, but it doesn't last long...just a couple of weeks.

I remember when I was little, (I'm talking about three years old to about eleven), how flirtatious I was. I mean, very innocent, but very flirtatious. I used to like almost every man or boy when I was very little. And I let them know in many cases.

Jude Law does rule my heart for the moment! But Jaime mentioned hot rockers! Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder are at the top of my list....in fact I went to a Pearl Jam concert and hated it that there was like a mile between me and Eddie!

08-29-04, 11:56 PM
Na, Ive never obsessed over actors or anyone. Actually Ive found that my non-ADD friends obsessed way more than I have. Ive always thought obsession was a waste of time.

I have had crushes where I couldn't stop thinking about the guy, but it usually was a normal guy that I actually had a chance with (neighbor, guy in class, friend of a friend, etc). But never to the point of obsession.

That being said, jaimegerise, I agree that Dave Grohl is definitely HOT! Hes at the top of my list so we'll have to wrestle! he he Also, Johnny Depp! :)

Mariela
08-30-04, 11:40 AM
Hopeless, true obsessions are helpless. You don't choose to have them and you can't stop them. Luckily, you don't suffer from them.

Hopeless
08-31-04, 01:14 AM
Mariela, in this particular thread, I think for the most part we're talking about crushes, not true OCD, scitzo obsessions.

What comes to mind are girls making a shrine in their bedrooms over Ashton Kutcher, Justin Timberlake, or in this case Jude Law. And including people obsessed with a certain movie, a certain band, and that sort of thing. Thats what kind of "obsession" Im talking about. Not serious stalking kind of obsession. The serious "true" obsession that comes from OCD or other conditions, you're right, people cannot help.

I agree with Britawn. Almost all females obsess over hot guys. I don't think its an ADD trait.

Boy...I started something? Noooo, I was kind of like, joking about obsession. I have a crush, not a serious obsession. Yes! Crushes do possess the mind a little! But if I had a shrine of anyone....I would hope someone from my family would advise me that I need help! I thought since this was a woman's forum, that I could talk about a fun thing with women who can relate!

By the way, I like Johnny Depp too. Ahhhhh....my boyfriend kind of resembles a mixture of Benjamin Bratt (ahhhhh) and Johnny Depp when he has the light beard on his face.

Hello everyone
There has been times (days, weeks, months) that I spent most of my day browsing information and photos of the famous people I got obsessed with .I knew it gave me some kind of comfort but at the same time I had extreme amounts of guilt of not doing my real job...
After I got diagnosed with ADD (I am not sure if I am diagnosed but ...long story) this obsessions kept going...
That even suprised my therapist after I told her several times,I spent my time with browsing these kind of information. She acted weird so I am not telling her that I still drool over some fan pages..It just happens...I am happy that way.Every year someone else...

JIM CAVIEZEL!!!

I'd seen him in other movies before "The Passion of the Christ" and thought he was alright...but MAN, he just brings Jesus to life in a major way, and he's sooooooo beautiful in this role. Not just physically (his eyes are to die for) but taking on this role, he just seemed so....inwardly beautiful....guess Jesus was that way too, I dunno.

Yeah, Jim gets my vote for humina of da year :D And I'd take him with his long hair and facial hair in this movie over his cleaned up look in others any day :D

I thought something was really wrong when I began ruminating about a coworker. I think is really a fantasy type escape from the doledrums of work but I have not had this happen since I was a teenager so I was kind of freaking out a bit. I could not get my mind off of him. (this is not my character at all). I have been married 18 years when suddenly this new person came to work and I am a babbling idiot over him. I sure hope it fades soon. I feel silly about it and guilty even though It is only in my head.I am glad I am not the only one. Who could be sexier than Bruce Willies?

p-stampy,

I agree that age doesn't really matter, and 5 years is surely not a big deal. I guess, I was always used to having little crushes on actors and they were always older than I was so for the first time I kind of felt old when I realized he was 5 years younger than I was.

I think I will always have an overactive imagination and fantastic fantasy life (as long as I don't take it too far). I am aware of the fact that actors can get sick of the girls goin' ga-ga, and that's one reason I don't hang around "fan" sites or write letters, etc. Really my "crush" (if you can call it that) is more on the character than the actor because I don't really "know" the actor. But from a purely physical standpoint, if I may be a female pig, Alan Rickman is a hotty, Jason Alexander is very cute (his character on Seinfeld isn't endearing, purely physical attraction), Vincent D'onofrio, and Robbie Coltrane (aka Hagrid in HP films). Can you imagine a romantic liason with a very sweet GIANT  :o John Rhys-Davies is very attractive...my list goes on and on and on....

Oink. Grrrrowl. Hubba hubba.

I think James Spader can look hot. He's got that chin, those lips, those eyes, and that sexy low voice. He's very intense, and can be very commanding onscreen. I like him when he's a normal weight. He was definitley a cutie when he was younger, too. Remember him in Stargate? Adorable!:D

I think older men are always hotter. Maybe it's the confidance they exude. As a young girl, I only liked actors and singers many years older than me. I never cared about the boys my own age. They were "just mere children". They were very uninteresting to me. BTW, any other Spader fans out there?
I wish I had discovered this thread sooner. What a good subject!!!

I think that the ruminating thing is probably ADD related. However, how many of you find that your crushes/obsessions/whatever, have a fairly high turnover rate? I think that, for me at least, the only crush that's been consistent is the type. If I were to have a room filled with crush memorabilia for each crush, I'd need a megamansion. How about you?

Severe crushing is just not limited to ADHD, I think, and given our media-obsessed culture, it's pretty understandable. My fiance and I have a running gag between us we picked up off of 'Friends', where we have laminated lists of famous people we are allowed to sleep with if the opportunity arises, and the other can't get mad.

My crushes:

1.) Ray Liotta (is, was, and always will be my secret boyfriend!)
2.) Esai Morales (scruptrelescent!)
3.) Ted Allen (Yes, I know he's gay, but I have as much chance of sleeping with him as the other 4 doods on this list! lol!)
4.) William Petersen (he is, was, and always will be the guy I cheat on my secret boyfriend with!)
5.) George Clooney (because, come on..he's GEORGE CLOONEY!!!)

I've always been more attracted to older men, not long ago I "decided" I had a crush on my boss, a day before a trip to Edinburgh over the weekend... every waking moment was tainted with the agony and ecstasy of longing...UGH. Seriously though, it's like when I start getting bored with my relationship, my brain suddenly "decides" it needs to put have a good, painful drippy crush on someone.

Back when I was in High School and Junior High I had heavy crushes on a few actors, Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day was one of the first when I was 10 (I even convinced myself I could communicate with him telepathically, oyyy) but lately I just haven't been crazy over any celebrities, I guess hearing so much about their "off screen lives" has made me come to realise that most of them are some of the silliest, most pathetic people you've ever come across.

LOL. The other day I watched one of the Way Of The Master things on TV. (I'm going to search for a thread about that once I find the religion threads. I have a hard time finding threads sometimes) I know he's a Christian now and I have three Left Behind movies with him in it. Anyway, I was watching Way of the Master and he and the other guy were talking about the 10 Commandments and how it's bad to lust after someone. My brain was thinking, "Kirk still looks good!". Uh...what were they just talking about?

I used to love him when I was a kid...and Ralph Machio. I found the Karate Kid movie at Wal-Mart the other day when my husband and I were there. I had to make sure I swooned (I love that word) when I said Ralph Machio. He looks, well....normal now. Non swoon material. Reminds me of another thread I could start.... Now and then pictures! Hot to "What happened??? A lot of the hot rockers that I loved.

Jon Bon Jovi now......no comment!!! LOL. There's the answer to the original question. I'm happily married. He's married (happily I hope...I think he is) so I should stop thinking of him!

Hmmmmmmm.... never noticed this thread before.... hmmmmmmmm...

Looks don't do it for me, really, so I don't fall for celebrities. I fall for real guys who write things like Grafter's list of why he loves his wife...

Anyway, WERE I to fall for celebrities, here's the list, in order:

Johnny Depp. He's so beautiful that I could ALMOST fall based on looks alone (rumor has it that he's a bit of an a*s in person), but I also LOVE his acting. What's Eating Gilbert Grape is my favorite so far, but Pirates of the Caribbean is also fabo. Yum.

Will Smith. Oh. My. What an incredible character. LOVE him in the Men in Black movies. Just love him in general, too.

Robin Williams. Heh heh. I actually love that he's fuzzy! Heh heh. But what a mind! Oh my, again.

Billy Joel. Yeah, y'all are laughing going, "Huh?" Go buy Cold Spring Harbor and listen to the lyrics. Then buy some of his classical piano pieces. 'Nuff said. It ain't all about the looks, girls.

Edward James Olmos. Mmmmmmmmmmmm.... again, it ain't about the looks. If you don't want to DO his character in Stand and Deliver, you don't really love men....

Paul Newman. No more need be said here. Looks. Talent. Commitment. Right (as in left) thinking. Still married to the same woman. 'Nuff said.

I don't go for Benjamin Bratt in general (too pretty for me.... the only exception to that rule for me is Depp), but his character in Love in the Time of Cholera TOTALLY does it for me. When he says, "I've come to fetch 'ya," I die every time. MMMmmmmm.

And, ok, I'm gonna add in a few chickas here, not that I go for chickas, but IF I went for chickas, here's who they'd be:

Jodie Foster. Oh. My. Every character that she's ever played blows my mind. Love the woman. Just LOVE the woman. That's a woman I'd do a threesome with in a HEARTBEAT! (Just wanted to kill the men off with that thought...)

Gillian Anderson. Yowza.... I loved the X-files not because of Duchovny. Too pretty, and kind of comes across as a dufus. But Anderson..... yum, particularly as she aged and her face thinned out. Yummalumma, as a friend of mine would say.

And finally, Halle Berry. Check out her "Funky Walking Dirty Talking" routine on Mad TV. It's absolutely riotous. She totally works it and is just SO funny in it that I just love her to death.

Ok, I'm done with the whole fantasy routine. Can you believe that I never ACTUALLY fantasize about anyone other than my current partner? Funny that. I'm a total serial monogamist.

Haha, I hear ya there!

Luke Perry as Lane Frost in 8 Seconds too...

Other than that, I don't really care for actors. A man on a horse on the other hand...

Hooooooooo, boy, Cowgirl, did you ever say it about a man on a horse.... A man on a horse who can handle a horse???????? Well, that pretty much finishes me off right there.

We could add that Paul Newman fits that category, of course. As does Clint Eastwood. Wouldn't throw him out, neither, would you? Heh heh heh.

Ok, this is shallow, granted. But it shore 'nuff is fun, ain't it?

It's not a symptom that is found in the diagnostic criteria but obesessing or "ruminating" is very common for people with AD/HD. If you add anxiety to the pitcure then yes it's a huge problem.

You can say that again!!

I'm with Sandy on Johnny Depp he is the epitome of cool and trendy. Next would be Tommy Lee Jones, there is just something about him........, and last but not least Sam Elliot he only gets better with age plus could listen to that deep husky voice of his forever .

No kidding! OH man, I worked with this one absolutely drop dead gorgeous guy and boy could he handle a horse. Watching him work some of the crazy horses... I was finished. ;)

Something about a cowboy/horseman on or working with horses makes him about 10 times more attractive.

Clint Eastwood is amazing too. And, there's nothing like watching a good saddlebronc rider! Too bad roughies are a little crazy.

Our family likes watching Dancing With The Stars. Mother-in-law thinks that Christian de la Fuente is hot. At first I didn't think so at all, my opinion of course. Later in the season, I thought that he's ok looking. But the other night when he was wearing that open shirt, wow! Now THEN he looked hot! Wonder what I'll think next week? Hot still or just ok again?

And of course I was looking up his name online (I thought it was spelled different. I think it's that little symbol thing that I don't know how to type. Hyphen? No. Don't even know what it's called!) and I got sidetracted on other stuff. Pet peeves of Dancing with the Stars. (some of the costumes, the "who's seeing which partner" thing, the scoring, etc). Checked out the Worst Costumes page....

Do you remember that commercial (for what, I don't remember!) about a guy who was on the computer surfing the Internet. The computer told him "You have seen all there is to see! Please....." (forgot what it said. Please something...) I wish it was that simple! But then half of the Net is porn which I could gladly skip! You know what? I thought I was typing on the "You know you have ADD when....." thread! LOL. That's where these last two paragraphs are going! I got on here to type about Christian!

Ok, I was walking back to my car on campus today and I was thinking about this thread. A few of the "sights" made me come up with a list...

From top to bottom:
-Baseball cap or cowboy hat
-Some of the buckaroos wear bandannas but not necessary
-t-shirt/polo/collared shirt tucked in
-belt (must be hair on, tooled, horse hair or rawhide design or have silver on it)
- 20x, cinch, wrangler, or cinch jeans. Not the old man/super redneck tight tight jeans but not hanging off either -- extra points if they're starched and creased
-boots -- ropers, lacers etc....

Now, all that with a denim jacket or carhartt.... Yeah, pretty hott
