I have a full semester of classes coming up which starts Sept 2nd. Next Semester I take two classes, then the next semester I take two classes after that. My gut is telling me to go to graduate school, but many people out there are saying it is not needed unless I want to go into a specialized field like law, medical, etc. Has anyone else ran into this as a stumbling block, and if so what made you make your decision?

My major is
Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in Public Admin. Where I can go from there after I get out I am still stumped on. I chose the major because you learn everything at once from so many different angles. :D

That's where I got stuck on the grad school question, because you do have to narrow your focus quite a bit once you get there. Do you have a good advisor, or access to a good career counseling center? I'm sure you could be successful in grad school .... finding your area of focus will probably be the tough part.

I am also trying to answer the grad school question. I am supposed to graduate in November with a BS in Organizational Management. I don't really have any intention of being a manager but the program was short and free because my husband is faculty at the college. Now I need to decide where to go from here. Ultimately a career(possibly part time) that I can do while staying home with my kids would be ideal. I have entrepreneurial aspirations but can not stick to one thing long enough to get it off the ground.

If you come up with any ideas for the person that wants to learn everything there is to know about everything let me know...

I graduated with a BS in psychology. I worked for a year as a habilitaion practitioner with adults with developmental disabilities, then worked for 3 years as an aide with kids with autism. I knew that I couldn't earn enough longterm with either of these jobs, but working gave me a way to earn some money while I tried to figure out what I wanted to do in life. I loved working with children with autism, and I finally realized that I was skilled at helping the kids to communicate ...and I found that very rewarding. So I went to grad school and became a speech-language pathologist (speech therapist).

Hmmm, so I guess my advice is to wait on grad school until you know what you want to study.

What's your dream job? Try working in that job or work in a related job if you don't have the proper qualifications for your dream job. See if you really do like it.
If you don't know what your "dream job" is, then just go out and get a job. Maybe you'll love it, maybe you won't.
If you decided to switch jobs, try to stick with the job for at least 6 months (preferably a year) to get a good feel for it. Take note of what you like & don't like about the job. Then you will be able to make a better choice for your next job.
Once you find your dream job, you can decide whether you need grad school or not. Grad school is expensive. Don't waste your time & money if you don't have a solid idea of what you want to study.
