So, did anyone else ever eat weird stuff when they were a kid? Or now, even?

I used to love to eat shortening!

My child use to demand frozen spinach for bedtime snack!

Personally, they think I'm weird when I combine foods, because I will combine almost any food together.

Can relate to this ! ....lol... Mostly I'm soooooooo not into eating anything weird and I'm not a food mixer. One food at a time. No chips in my sandwich, no casseroles ...lol... I was once told I don't know how to "run my plate" ...lol.. I eat mostly one thing at a time and was told I should eat a little bit everything on my plate....WHAT ?......lol....

Actually, in many cultures they NEVER let their food touch! That's why they have tapas...little plates, one for each food. So, you should feel worldly, not silly!

Yes, Misclee -- I relate to foods not touching....remember how in elementary school they used to just serve us food on plates in cafeteria...NO CHOICES of COURSE....and so if there was something on the plate I didn't like -- i would HATE it if it touched something else on the plate that I DID like....i hated squash back then...so if it touched my hamburger....I was mad...

Hey fasttallking.....THANKS very much for highlighting my sugar junkie...eating frosting out of cans thing!!..I'm slightly embarrassed....:) :) but it's cool....

I don't remember this, but my uncle told me recently I that I use to eat butter. But I do remember having to put ketchup on everything.

When I was a kid, would keep a jar of fluff and peanutbutter, already mixed, in my room.

Actually, tapas were originally "street food", designed to be eaten sort of on the run with a drink. Although other legends of tapas' beginnings include the need for farm laborers to eat small portions of food between their meals so they could continue to labor in the fields, and even a legend about a king of Spain who couldn't eat more than a few bites of food at a time (with sips of wine of course) due to an illness. So actually, it has nothing to do with foods not touching each other... in fact, many tapas both modern and traditional are often unlikely combinations of foods... exactly the opposite of not letting your foods touch :)

(Eric sometimes thinks he was a chef in a previous life.)

OK, now to answer the question:

Of course I eat weird foods. When I was a kid, I remember other kids eating paste. Of course, these were the same kids who ate boogers too. :/

As for me, I ate neither... but I've always loved spaghetti-o's right from the can. My kids and I all like to put baked beans directly on our hot dogs or hamburgers. Frozen cool whip was always a treat, especially late at night direct from the tub ;) (no, not while taking a bath... the Cool Whip tub!) My kids and I also like Spam, although my fiancee won't touch the stuff. (Even though I have sent her to the Spam Haiku site.) I'm also fond of all kinds of sushi, which many people consider a "weird" food, although I find it completely normal. Love soba noodles, too... and red bean ice cream! (Good sushi places are hard to find in Michigan... thank goodness I travel a lot for work!)

Okay, just had 'lite" frozen cool whip last night right out of the tub...no not in the tub...the COOL WHIP TUB....STILL GOOD TODAY...and as a kid, I ate paste too.

Sushi huh? Okay, sushi is VERY raw. That is why you could never get me to eat it.....yes it is weird in my opinion....very good sushi in Florida Eric...all over...by the way....What are soba noodles???

I also like macaroni and cottage cheese.....together.....and barbecue sauce on my french fries. Maybe I'm not too weird. Misclee, did you mention earlier that you were going to the store after Andrew mentioned marshmallow fluff? May I join you? Incidentally, McDonald's has salads now! But they also have brownie hot fudge sundaes...Hmmmmm:)

They are buckwheat noodles, served cold, usually. It's kind of a mass of gray noodles you see sometimes in a "bento box" sushi lunch. Love them. They sometimes come with a dipping sauce, or you dip them in a combination of wasabi and soy sauce. They are completely unlike ramen noodles (also good but very "americanized" and high in sodium and fat) and also not anything like udon noodles (which I also like... they're like fat fettucini, usually served in a clear soup broth with fish or vegetables). Soba's my favorite though, when it comes to Japanese noodles.

See pictures of soba at:

or

As one web site says about them: "Japanese soba noodles get their appealing, nutty flavor and speckled brown color from a secret ingredient: nutritious buckwheat flour. They're delicious in stir-fries and soups, and I love to use them in salads." I like them cold, but they can also be used in hot dishes. Made some once for a girl I was dating... she looked at me with this weird look, because the noodles were cold and gray. :)

Hey those soba noodles look pretty good, I must admit...but I would use them in a stir fry, definitely...not cold.....not a real ugly gray thank God.......Eric, is there ANYTHING for which you do not have a website to illustrate a point??!!!:) :)

I swear someone could say the word, um, for example, papercups, and you would have a website for it...!!!:).......I bet........
