Can someone take a 20mg pill, or do they have to take 2 of the 10s?
I tried searching... but when people say they take 5 or 10 or 20mg, I still didn't know if they meant one 20mg pill, or two 10mg.

anyway... I looked online, but was skeptical if the information was accurate/up-to-date. It said Dexedrine *does* come in 20mg tablets. I tried to get that filled today and they said it doesn't come in that dosage. My doc was looking at a book when she was converting dosages (I was on Adderall before) and it said right there, that it comes in 5, 10, 20, and maybe 30 (i forget the last # or 2). what gives? this is especially frustrating, because it is my second trip to the pharmacy, and i was turned down both times, and i'm so embarassed now! the first time, my doctor had put "as directed" and they said that is not allowed, even though she's done it lots of times. I wasn't surprised though, since it's a controlled drug... so i had to make another 60 minute drive to pick up a new script! i hope my pharmacy is wrong and i can go somewhere else... ?

This is the name brand because my doctor checked "do not substitute" -- is generic dex much cheaper like with adderall etc or are they pretty close?

nevermind what i said about the brand-name... well, what I mean is that she didn't specify whether it had to be brand-name, so basically i am asking if Dexedrine OR generic come in 20mg pills.

I forgot I had told her I wanted to get generic if I could  yeah shows you how well my brain is working!

The usual dose is 5 to 60 milligrams per day, divided into smaller, equal doses of 5 mg tablets (when taking the non-spansule tablet)

SpansuleŽ capsules

Each Spansule sustained release capsule is so prepared that an initial dose is released promptly and the remaining medication is released gradually over a prolonged period.

Each capsule, with brown cap and clear body, contains dextroamphetamine sulfate. The 5 mg capsule is imprinted 5 mg and 3512 on the brown cap and is imprinted 5 mg and SB on the clear body. The 10 mg capsule is imprinted 10 mg -- 3513 -- on the brown cap and is imprinted 10 mg -- SB -- on the clear body. The 15 mg capsule is imprinted 15 mg and 3514 on the brown cap and is imprinted 15 mg and SB on the clear body. A narrow bar appears above and below 15 mg and 3514. Product reformulation in 1996 has caused a minor change in the color of the time-released pellets within each capsule. Inactive ingredients now consist of cetyl alcohol, D&C Yellow No. 10, dibutyl sebacate, ethylcellulose, FD&C Blue No. 1, FD&C Blue No. 1 aluminum lake, FD&C Red No. 40, FD&C Yellow No. 6, gelatin, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, propylene glycol, povidone, silicon dioxide, sodium lauryl sulfate, sugar spheres and trace amounts of other inactive ingredients.

Tablets

Each triangular, orange, scored tablet is debossed SKF and E19 and contains dextroamphetamine sulfate, 5 mg. Inactive ingredients consist of calcium sulfate, FD&C Yellow No. 5 (tartrazine), FD&C Yellow No. 6, gelatin, lactose, mineral oil, starch, stearic acid, sucrose, talc and trace amounts of other inactive ingredients.

To the best of my knowledge they don't come in 20's - ask the pharmacist, he/she will have a better idea than the Dr which sizes are actually available. Some pharmacies may not stock the larger sizes either - if there is no demand, they won't stock it, but you may be able to order it, who knows?

the pharmacist was an ******* -- he wouldn't talk to me, simply told the cashier to tell me that he wouldn't take the prescription, and to take it back to my doc. of course, i pressed WHY and it was relayed to me that "it's invalid" and finally, like 10 minutes later, i was told it doesn't come in that strength. i understand now how dexedrine brand comes only in 5mg, but i thought generic had more dosing options. ? gregstar, do you take the name brand?

oh, and i knew they wouldn't stock it - they don't even stock the 5mg, and in fact no pharmacy around here stocks adderall either. the larger pharmacies sometimes have the generic in stock, but usually it's not enough, so i have to order that too.

you said you take 15mg, 3 times daily right? so 9 pills/day? i seem to run into problems with the # of pills is a lot.... so i wish it came in a higher strength :( uggh. have you ever tried spansules? i don't like the idea of taking 15mg increments because i'm weird but i might try it if it's better :)

In case anyone happens to be searching for dosage info/comparing brands, i thought I'd finish this threat to add that no, 20mg tablets are NOT available in any brand. The highest is 10mg, which I was just prescribed, brand name Dextrostat.

With controlled substances, like stimulants, the Doctor's prescription has to be EXACT and there can be no substitutions - so the pharmacist couldn't give you twice as many 10mg tablets if the scrip said 20mg - I had to go back to my Doctor the first time for a similar reason - he wrote 10mg and it was only available in 5mg in regular release.
They can't write refills either. My Dr just gave me a scrip for 2 month's worth (I was seeing him once a month but now he's sure my BP is OK) and I'm not sure they will accept it.
BTW I take the name brand Dexedrine since there is no generic available in Ontario.

Is Dextrostat 10 mg time released or regular?

The Pharmacists now adays are more paranoid about the amphetamine scripts because most dont like to work in a pharmacy that is known to have a vast array of amphetamines, dextroamphetamines, and such. Thats why they are so picky, its there way of not having to deal with it, they expect that you will simply go to another pharmacy instead of back to the dr for a new script.
