Hey, I'm taking 10mg. lexepro and my new insurance will not cover it but my doc said celexa is basicly like the old version of lexepro. Anyone who made this switch, was there much difference between the two?

When I was on meds, I had made the opposite switch...from concerta to lexapro....wasn't much of a difference for me...and the only reason for the switch was because I was able to get samples at some point for the lexapro :D

My son who is 10 was given the choice of Lexapro or Celexa (well we were given the choice). Lexapro is a newer drug and has less side effects. For him , the Lexapro didn't provide maximum benefits to support paying so much. We were paying $35 and just can't afford it if it wasn't showing maximum benefits. He took it for 2+ months. My husband had Celexa for about 2 months and didn't like it. He said it made him feel "weird". Whatever that means. I guess the best thing is to try it. I do know for our insurance it is cheaper. Right now we are holding off on the anxiety medicine for a couple of weeks to see if my son really needs it. Jennifer

My doc said Celexa has slightly more side effecs but is actually a little better for anxiety. With Celexa there is also more of a risk of poop-out -- gradually over time you need more and more of it to feel better. On the other hand, maybe by the time it poops out Lexapro will be generic!!
