Hi all! Great forum you have here, thanks for putting it online!
I always knew i was different... but yesterday, after making 2 add online tests i have got my answers! I have scored high on both tests.

Well this is the deal... Ever since i was a kid, every time i sat down on a chair, on my bed or any other place i started balancing my body back and forwards. I still do this today, just not in front of other people(for obvious reasons)... The thing is, i have complete control over this, i only do that because i want to. I choose to do that because it makes me feel good, less stressful, you know...
Always wondered why the heck i did that??? when did it started?? i can't even remember... i just did/do that because it makes me feel better!
My cousin also did that as a kid but as he grown up it went away. Well not on me... I also have other issues like: always moving my feet, my hands. When i am at the computer i am constantly clicking the mouse in blank zones of the screen, clicking the windows... I just do this... Out of nowhere.

Are these behaviors a sign of hyperactivity?
What should i do now?

Thanks
ps: sorry for my english, i am not a native speaker.

I think what you are referring to are called "Stims". Everyone has them and some have more. It is wiggling your feet or tapping your fingers....they can be anything that you do repeatedly. It is a way of calming yourself or organizing yourself....especially if you are stressed. Autistic people have these but to a greater degree. I have a son who has Autism and his stims are picking the skin off of his lip. You can't get him to stop. We try to redirect it but it turns into some other form of stim. I have one where I press the tops of the end of my nails with my fingers. (kind of like flicking your fingers) I don't do it all the time and try to stop myself when I find my self doing it. It just feels good. My Mom used to bite her lip all the time.

I've always done this too!

Let me guess, as a kid your chair fell over backwards a lot too? :D

I bounce around constantly....It is not something I have control over. Normally its my leg/foot that just kind of taps incessently. God forbid I get a hold of a pen that clicks open/closed. Its over.

i never noticed that before, but lately (i've been on concerta for five months now, and i guess it's since then that i've startde noticing it - i bet i was too "in the fog" before...;-) i often catch myself tapping my foot "everywhere" - in the chair by the computer (e g right now;-), in cars (thankfully i don't drive!;-) and at meetings...

my friends notice this too (of course), and they're constantly telling me to *stop*, and most of the time i'm able too, but not always...

I often tap the fingers on my right hand to the beat of "The William Tell Overture" (The Lone Ranger Theme).

Does that count??

"Stims", huh? So that's what that is! I've been a leg-bouncer my whole life, along with fits of finger tapping other fidgets...

I have lots of stims. Some of you have mentioned some of them. I think the most peculiar one is writing with my fingers in the air.

LOL. I do that. It's sort of like doodling when you have nothing to doodle on or with. I think that might be why I enjoy calligraphy as a hobby.

Sort of along those lines, I play guitar, banjo and a little piano. I often strum or pick like I'm playing one of my instruments in the air or on myself. I pretend to play the piano on a table or desk once in a while.

Oh, and I can relate to the pen clicker too. Fun to make those click pens jump up in the air, isn't it??

tome everything has to be balanced, ugh if I wiggle my right leg I have to do the same with my left. If i do it 8 times with the right it has to be 8 times with the left. I try and stop myself but it just feels good doing it.

Oh I guess I have a few of these.

I like to track how much ink is left in a pen. I take pens apart and put them back together constantly if I don't have something more constructive to do with it....like write.

I also have this thing for rubbing a certain type of fabric between my fingers it has to be just the right texture though - that one is left over from my thumb sucking days as a little kid.

My other one is picking at my split ends. I keep my hair short most of the time to avoid this one as it is kind of weird to see someone staring at the ends of thier hair LOL
