Ahh, well the much awaited apointment was today.

I had to fill out a LOT of paperwork. Many sheets of questions, all pertaining to AD/HD, bipolar, depression, ect. Dr. Heller was really really super nice. After 20 or so minutes of checking me out and asking me several questions, he concluded that not only am I AD/HD (He even commented on how hyperactive I seem to him, if he only KNEW!!!), but he thinks bipolar is a strong possibility as well. I know virtually nothing about being bi-polar. Also, he confirmed the general anxiety.

Sooooo....He put me on strattera - 25 mgs for the first 4 days, then upped to 40 mgs. He said he could tell the AD/HD was a problem and we needed to get that under control. AND he gave me samples!

All in all, I'd say it went very well. The bi-polar diagnosis makes me a bit nervous, since that is uncharted waters, but its nothing some good research on the net can't cure.

So tonight is the first dose. We'll see how it goes!

so your saying that the Doctor actually asked you questions and was actually paying attention?? geesh , wonder what that's like. You mean he didnt ask " so what seems to be the problem?" and when i try to explain my lie , he constantly interrupts with " that's unfortunate" , he wasnt listening, at the end he says, i giving you a prescription, geesh i could have been a junkie and he would have no idea.He called that session a diagnosis, i diagnosed myself and told him what i had, i really hate all these *******s, money grubbing scum, I really wish they would listen. I can be very manipulative, i am paying these guys for a professional opinion and all they can do is sit there and jump on the cell phone in the middle of my "session" this has happened with numerous doctors.

Sounds good. Glad to hear he did such a thorough check and that you liked him. That's so important. Good luck and have patience, it can take time to get the dosages all set, etc.

Did he warn you about possible problems with the Strattera if the bipolar is true? It's been known to speed up the cycling in bipolars, as well as trigger manic episodes (Not trying to scare you but I really hope he informed you of all this!)

In fact, I know so little about bipolar, I don't know what cycling is or what a manic episode is. And I don't have much time to research it, because a hurricane is about to hit me...almost directly.

Good luck with the hurricane, and with the meds... When the storm is over do some research on Bipolar, Dysthymia (sp?) and Strattera.

Very irresponsible of the doc to just dx you with both and put you on meds without informing you of the risks if indeed you ARE bipolar!
