Draga, anyone?

I'm learning guitar & somehow latched onto this song 'cause it's easy to play & I like the chorus but the rest of the lyrics are pretty lame. Maybe someone has a better idea for a direction to go with it. The part I like is in bold, the rest can be flushed (or whatever).

Tom Petty - Free Falling

She's a good girl, loves her mama
Loves Jesus and America too
She's a good girl, crazy 'bout Elvis
Loves horses and her boyfriend too
It's a long day living in Reseda
There's a freeway runnin' through the yard
And I'm a bad boy cause I don't even miss her
I'm a bad boy for breakin' her heart
And I'm free, free fallin'
Yeah I'm free, free fallin'
All the vampires walkin' through the valley
Move west down Ventura Boulevard
And all the bad boys are standing in the shadows
All the good girls are home with broken hearts
And I'm free, free fallin'
Yeah I'm free, free fallin'
And I'm free, free fallin'
Yeah I'm free, free fallin'
I wanna glide down over Mulholland
I wanna write her name in the sky
Gonna free fall out into nothin'
Gonna leave this world for a while
And I'm free, free fallin'
Yeah I'm free, free fallin'
And I'm free, free fallin'
Yeah I'm free, free fallin'
And I'm free, free fallin'
Yeah I'm free, free fallin'

What you're talking about is called a "filk". I do this all the time, actually, both as part of my improv group (Weird Al style) and also my historical reenactment group (they take songs and rewrite them with medieval lyrics instead).

What would you rather the song was about? We can help you. :D It looks as though its about relationships, and guilt maybe, but the chorus could be about a lot of things.... drugs maybe? :D :D :D

It's about letting go & falling free, forgetting about the troubles or maybe on a more optimistic less druggie angle something more like letting go of the troubles so you can move ahead with life. Nothing wrong with letting go of worries. I like really heavy serious lyrics & this one is soooo corny pop it makes me sick but I like the tune & the chorus.

Well, this is harder than it looks, heh.

Here's one possibility... maybe Draga or someone else will feel like offering an alternative, or improving this one:

Free Falling – alternative lyrics

Been a long day, taking on my troubles
Finding a way, for me to get by
And it seems like, the clock won’t stop ticking
Chasing me till, the day that I die
And I don’t care, if no-one understands it
There's a point where, I need some peace
Gonna slow down, and let go my worries
Gonna slow down, and feel my release

And I'm free, free fallin'
Yeah I'm free, free fallin'

Had enough of, fighting through the traffic
Had enough of, hearing ‘bout the war
I don’t need this, this hassling with people
Wanna go home, and stress out no more

And I'm free, free fallin'
Yeah I'm free, free fallin'
And I'm free, free fallin'
Yeah I'm free, free fallin'

I’m gonna take my mind on vacation
Gonna dream of, a private desert isle
Gonna free fall out into nothin'
Gonna leave this world for a while

And I'm free, free fallin'
Yeah I'm free, free fallin'
And I'm free, free fallin'
Yeah I'm free, free fallin'
And I'm free, free fallin'
Yeah I'm free, free fallin'

"Gonna slow down, and let go my worries
Gonna slow down, and feel my release"

Heh, I like that, much better thanks! I couldn't come up with anything but you got the mood pretty good!

BTW I could easily use several pages of alternative lyrics for this. I'm at that super-tedious stage of practicing where I only know a couple songs & they get boring after a while with the same old words.

hehehe well maybe you should recruit Draga and some others then, get a whole bunch of versions of the song...

Maybe this will get the juices going..not sure if this is deep enough or what.

Tom Petty - Free Falling modified.

Been a long time, a long time coming
Where I'm going, nobody knows
Want to look up and see my freedom
Its sunshine and a soft wind blows
And I"m leaving the past behind me
Goin to try out this other road
Come with me now, and share this moment
Lose trouble and let our mind unload
And I'm free, free fallin'
Yeah I'm free, free fallin'
Who knows what now lays before me
I'm a new man with fresh in my eye
And I'm groovin the wide open spaces
And I'm losing what old worries buy
And I'm free, free fallin'
Yeah I'm free, free fallin'
And I'm free, free fallin'
Yeah I'm free, free fallin'
Want to get out explore my new world
Want to start fresh with nothing to hide
Gonna free fall out into nothin'
Gonna leave this world for a while
And I'm free, free fallin'
Yeah I'm free, free fallin'
And I'm free, free fallin'
Yeah I'm free, free fallin'
And I'm free, free fallin'
Yeah I'm free, free fallin'

Hey that's great folks, I kinda combined those with minor additions & this works great (much better than the original lyrics):

Free Fallin' - Paul's combined version

Been a long day, taking on troubles
Findin' a way to get by
And I"m leavin' the past behind me
Startin' over and give it a try
And I don’t care, if no-one understands it
There's a point where, I need some peace
Gonna slow down, and let my worries go
Gonna slow down, and feel my release

And I'm free, free fallin'
Yeah I'm free, free fallin'

Been a long time, a long time comin'
Where I'm going, nobody knows
Want to look up and see my freedom
Lose the troubles, let my mind unload

And I'm free, free fallin'
Yeah I'm free, free fallin'
And I'm free, free fallin'
Yeah I'm free, free fallin'

Want to get out explore my new world
Want to start fresh with nothing to hide
Gonna free fall out into this new life
Gonna trust my self this time

And I'm free, free fallin'
Yeah I'm free, free fallin'
And I'm free, free fallin'
Yeah I'm free, free fallin'
And I'm free, free fallin'
Yeah I'm free, free fallin'
