I have been grinding and clenching my teeth all my life.I am 27 now and it is taking it's toll on me...Now my jaw makes sounds and lock most of the time,I can not even open my mouth in the mornings to have breakfast.I can not even chew a gum...After a while it feels better and I can use it normally.
I had a mouth guard but maybe because of ADD i can not even close my eyes when it's in my mouth.I hate the feeling that something touches me...

I use celexa for depression, wellbutrin for add and trazadone for sleeping. After all this medication it is still a torture for me to sleep.I feel tired all day anyway with or without medication.

I rarely slept like a baby ,I had to be medicated or drunk. And like all these things were not enough I had some kind of behaviour in my sleep, sometimes I can not stop moving ,I shake my legs constantly, turn over and over,I realize I do these but even though half of my brain is awake I can not wake up. Then I wake up in the morning exausted...
Is there anyone who has the same problems?

I had this problem briefly when I was on 54 mgs of concerta.....it went away when I was lowered back to 36....and I am now off of concerta.

Try forcing yourself to wear the mouthguard for two weeks. In that amount of time, you may become more tolerant of it. Or, try wearing the mouthguard during the day, and gradually increase the length of time you wear it. Eventually you should be able to tolerate it for sleeping.

The difficulty opening your jaw sounds like TMJ disorder --pain of the tempomandibular joint (the jaw) and of the associated jaw muscles. Ask your doctor about this ...perhaps he can refer you to someone (an orthodontist?). For more info, go to:
http://www.tmj.org/

It sounds like you also may also have restless leg syndrome. I don't know much about it, but you should check the "sleeping" forum under co-existing conditions.

I went to see one...He told me I need to have braces and must have a mouth guard.I agree with him. My my insurance company does not support me on this...I'll tell my doctor to change medications or something maybe that would help.
I make face relaxing exercises everyday it doesn't seem to help now but maybe in a couple of months...

Was it your dental insurance that refused coverage? If so, maybe your doctor could make a case for your medical insurance to cover the cost ...it might save them money in the long run since meds for chronic pain management can be expensive, plus the lack of sleep & chronic pain may negatively affect your overall health.

Check out the website I posted --they listed a ton of treatment options for TMJ, although I got the feeling that some are not very well researched. Still, it's worth looking into, no?

i clench and grind my teeth also. i have been doing it since i was younger. when i was 18 i had to have jaw surgery on the right side. now my left side is bothering me and i cant do anything about it becuase i dont have insurance. it will lock for days sometimes and its really hard to eat a sandwich. its gotten progessively worse and it will keep on until it locks all the way. you are right gingagirl, its called tmj. it sounds like it is getting pretty bad vermillion. good luck on getting that fixed, i feel for ya :)

I am sorry maiasmom that's really bad about the surgery but I believe mine is coming soon.
Thank god finally my internal medicine doctor sent me to sleep clinic. If they can't find a solution I am not going to sleep again.I can not stand anymore.Everyday for almost 24 years...I always was a bad sleeper even when I was an infant they say...
I know people suffer from worst things but I am so tired I can not stand anymore...
It's just too much..I have enough problems in my life and the last thing I need is this thing.
An orthodontist told me my teeth are going really bad.If I don't start wearing braces and protective mouth guards I can say bye bye to my teeth in a few years.
I remember as a kid I wore braces those horrible days filled with pain...Even if I thought that was the solution it costs $ 4000 and I don't have a job for 3 years I feel like a little bug that no one wants to see in US.I don't know what to do..Well I should stop whining...It's enough.Thank you for your comments...

Yep, bruxism, restless legs, million-mile-an-hour mind, tossing and turning for hours, little itches every few seconds, too hot, too cold, light sleep, hair not laying right, pillows not fluffed right, sheets too tangled, need to go to the bathroom AGAIN, and all I want to do is sleeeeeeeeep. I wonder if there is a tea or something out there that really will put me to sleep; will a hot bath help?

I also grind my teeth during sleep to the point that I not only awaken with a sore jaw, but also a head ache. Unfortunately, I also do this when I am awake. It is mostly if my sugar is getting low or if I have had too much caffiene.

I have the restless legs, the itches, the hair not laying right, the sheet not laying right, the what is that noise, the pillow is too fat, flat, hard or soft.
I have found that once I created a sleep ritual and followed it for about a month, simply starting the ritual would slow my mind a little. (Of course, I take my Trazodone as the first step and I follow up with a benedryl.)

These are things that have really helped me: Burning lavender oil to que slower thinking, using a lavender pillow mist or linen spray on my sheets, applying eucalyptus and spearmint lotion to my forehead, temples and back of my neck to slow my heart rate, drinking chamomile tea, even a warm bath with a few chamomile tea bags in the water, cutting out all caffiene and sugar within 3 hours of the time I am going to sleep, dim the lights way down about an hour before I plan to go to sleep, playing relaxation music with nature sounds, applying a muscle rub to my jaw area to relax the muscles and holding a pen lightly between my teeth during the day to keep myself from clenching.

I don't have to do everything I mentioned here all the time, I would actually never have time to sleep if I did. I have found which work best for me when I am really wound up though and I save those for the times I need it most.

Hope some of this is useful. Good Luck!

I have bruxism too and wear a mouth guard that just goes between the two top and two bottom middle teeth. It is suppose to be better than the mouth guards that go in the back of your mouth which might protest your teeth but stilll cause jaw problems because sometimes you actually bite harder with them on. I can't remember the name of it though -- it cost about $350. Fortunately my insurance covered most of it.

I've found that caffeine really increases the chewing motion. Dr. Dodson who spoke at the ADDA Conference said that caffeine is the most potent trigger for tic type movements.

Take care -- I hope you can find a solution that works well for you.

And Stimulant Meds and SSRIs and Wellbutrin make Tooth-Grinding (and body muscle tension) in Sleep, worse.

That's how i know i'm on too much stimulant. I was on Dexedrine and Wellbutrin, and that was just way too much, stimulant side-effect wise.
