I forgot to take my dexedrine today, and i am feeling really depressed. Is this from missing a dosage? or might i just be depressed for other reasons. I can't seem to put my finger on what it is.

View Full Version : Forgot to take my meds today. ChemicalMethod 09-12-04, 10:23 PM I forgot to take my dexedrine today, and i am feeling really depressed. Is this from missing a dosage? or might i just be depressed for other reasons. I can't seem to put my finger on what it is. exeter 09-12-04, 10:37 PM It's possible. Is there anything in particular you feel depressed about? Do you ever feel depressed when you do take your meds? ChemicalMethod 09-13-04, 12:06 AM I guess its a bunch of things. Being lonely would be the major one, along with some other issues i don;t really want to get into. My only concern about taking dexedrine is that it gives you a false sense of well being,I do know i suffer from depression(just found out tonite it runs in the family) and anxiety, and that maybe the dexedrine could be possibly covering these up when i take them. I rather not have that be whats happening as i should be tackling these other problems as well. exeter 09-13-04, 12:24 AM I think what I would do is see your doc and/or therapist (preferably both) about the depression and anxiety. It seems pretty clear that there are other things besides ADD troubling you. From my experience with Wellbutrin (have never taken Dex, sorry), I've found it doesn't cover up my depression so much as help me deal with the issues that have caused me to be depressed in the past. It kinda reduces my sensitivity level, so to speak. I still feel sad about things that used to make me sad, but I don't fall into the pit of depression as easily. Also, ADD itself can cause a certain amount of depression and anxiety (at least it does in me). Maybe that's why you feel better on dex? That one's just my personal theory, and I am not a psychiatrist, so take it for what you will. paulbf 09-13-04, 12:36 AM Yeah, stimulants used to be prescribed for depression so that is a legitimate concern. They do certainly act as a mood brightener as well as treating the ADHD. Ian 09-13-04, 01:18 AM I find the brightening effect to be quite pronounced. I'm grateful for it too. I'd love to do my testing over again now that I've been on Dex for nearly a year. I'd be curious as to what the differences are now. The area no longer provides me with coverage for the extensive tests I had initially though so it's a stiff bill to get the testing privately now. I'll probably never know now. ian ChemicalMethod 09-13-04, 02:47 AM i will try and get into the office of my a.d.d specialist asap to discuss this matter further. Thank you for your replies. addhil 12-09-04, 02:01 AM When I take my Dexedrine, within about an hour and a half I get a sense of almost euphoria and suddenly I want to send greeting cards to my family and friends or other very weird lovey-dovey things like that, and normally this sort of thing would be a dreaded task for me. It bothers me sometimes because there's something very unreal about it. |
