40 mg/day. Is that good?

joanrdtobe
05-27-03, 09:03 PM
Yes, good place to start....excellent...40 mg is not too much.....which is good.....:) (in my opinion)

She just called and wants me to start at 20mg then increase by 10 mg every couple of days until I hit 40mg.

I really hope it helps. Any idea how long until I can tell if it's working??

varies....do you have a placebo affect? May start right away in that case!!! If not, may take a few days...as was case with me...and some doctors say wait as much as 6 weeks to see effect...EVERYONE IS SO DIFFERENT....Please drink lots of water....

I would ignore those posts and give it a shot...don't jinx it.....you must try it...see how it is for a few days....okay? It might work for you..Talk to Jon/Healthwiz....he's on it and it has really worked for him and side effects are within normal limits for him....everyoen is differenent.

Well, they didn't have it so have to order it. Now I'm wondering if I should try the Effexor instead. The doc had me choose which one but kind of sounded like she thought the Effexor would be better for me. I chose Strattera, basically, just becuase. Any suggestions?

joanrdtobe
05-27-03, 10:20 PM
Yes, would try Strattera first...it's specifically for adults with add and a non stimulant...you'll know Misclee pretty quickly whether it's a "go" or not....you can always do the effexor.....which is not without side effects either....I guess what I'm saying is if you want to TARGET the add, go for the strattera first....that targets add. Effexor from what I understand is an antidepressant...not really an ADD drug...incidentally did your doctor ever mention possibly at some point being on both an antidepressant and add med at same time? Some people do that....but in any event, would go with Strattera....first....

No, it's okay Joan. You're right. I am just second guessing myself as always. First instincts are usually right:) I promise, if it doesn't work out I won't blame you!

okay, thanks for not blaming me...that's reassuring:).appreciate that!! Hey and if it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out...there are lots of options...and it happens all the time...the not working out part....You don't really lose anything...take it a day at a time....maybe it will be exasctly what you've been looking for.....Drink lots of H2O, okay?

i hope it's not too expensive,
i'm telling you all i can afford is generic ritalin at $80 a bottle

joanrdtobe
06-02-03, 07:47 PM
It is expensive medication Andrea...but it's covered by insurance...

Andrew
06-02-03, 09:32 PM
Its approximately $98 - $116 a bottle without insurance, and about $16 - $32 with insurance (my experience only)

Misclee, I have had great success with this med, but encourage you to ask questions.

misclee
06-02-03, 10:58 PM
Yeah, my copay was $10.

joanrdtobe

WHICH IS WHY..........having a fulltime job which one likes is so nice WITH benefits....including health insurance.....with medication coverage.....so that I TOO can have co-payments of $10.00. I'm jealous of that Misclee. Here at school, our student insurance plans: we had co-pays of $15.00 for generic and $30.00 for name brands. Of course Wellbutrin is name brand. So it was always $30.00 per month. Plus I'm on a few other meds. So my meds were a big expense while in school...And my co-pays for the doctor appointments themselves were $40.00. BUT at the same time, I'm grateful I had coverage at all.....:)

i count my self lucky,
ritalin always worked for me,
while out of work, as i said, generic costs me at least $80
with benefits my co pay was 5-7$ generic and 15 brand name

i was talking with this girl, who was in school at the time and without a med plan ~ her doctor put her on concerta
when she got to the pharmicist she found out that ONE BOTTLE was going to cost her $500.

no joke.
when she said this, i nearly died
$5 or $100
is better than $500 for one bottle.

misclee, if this is your first bout with Rx, i agree with joan, try different Rx's to see which one's right,
but if you've taken something b4 and it's worked for you,
i say stick with it,

anyhow,
that's my 2cents.
(no pun intended)

Yeah, so far I haven't noticed a huge difference. I would like to give it more time though. I'm thinking maybe I need a higher dose in the near future...
