Hey,

My name is David. I was recently diagnosed with ADD for the second time. The first time was when I was in grade school. I took Ritalin for one year and then stopped. I STRUGGLED with school and then jobs my entire life. This past January, I asked my PCP to evaluate me for ADD. He took a history and then suggested I take Metadate CD to see if that would help me focus. After one month I reported some improvement and we decided to double my dosage to see if that would make things even better. I have been taking 40 mgs for about five months. I am still challenged by my job, but I think the medication has helped. I have researched ADD on the 'net and wonder if I could be suffering from overfocus. I have some difficulty shifting my attention from task to task. Self-esteem has been a HUGE issue for me because I have felt like such a dissappointment to my parents first, and now my spouse. I have been in counselling for six weeks and that seems to have helped as well.

I have two wonderful boys, 3 years and 1 year old. I have been married very happily for 12 years. I am looking for another job because the one I have now is not going to work out. I took it out of desperation after I was laid off from a job I really enjoyed. My wife and I have decided that the most important thing is that I find a job that I enjoy and is well suited for me. Not that I find a job that pays well. I think this will be a much better strategy.

Thanks, David for setting up this web site.

David

David,
First, welcome to ADDForums. It's great to have you here.
I know what you are talking about in regards to finding a job that you are happy with. I have finally gotten into what I truely like and it is like night and day. I have been through so many different jobs in the past, and though I did well, when it stopped being fun, or became a pain, I would blow them off.
More on that later. Again, welcome to the community!
David
