View Full Version : How do you explain Asperger's to your child

My 13 y/o was diagnosed for education purposes 2 years ago. The education part being a team from Emory University observed him for a day, I filled out a survey, and also his teacher filled out a survery. It was good enough for a IEP, but we didn't proceed with a $400 diagnosis from a doctor.

I have yet to tell him or explain it. Is there anything I can read or give him to read on how to explain all this?

I don't know about books on Asperger's and older kids, but we've found
some great books at our local library to read with my 9 year old grand-
daughter who has Autism. If your family enjoys reading like ours does,
see what you can find at the library.

I'm not quite sure what the best way to explain it is, but there's a good book called "Take control of Asperger's Syndrome" that's intended for teens/pre-teens which discusses ways to overcome common educational and social obstacles.
