Google and Thunderbird both tout the ability to make multiple calendars to manage different areas of life, e.g. a calendar for work, a calendar for school, another for family and so on.

My question, does this really translate into greater productivity?

It's been a help for me. I have several calendars that I need to keep separate from my main (personal) calendar. It's nice to be able to either show all of them at once on the same calendar or separate them and view them individually. It's saved me a lot of time and trouble since I can sync the calendars to my iPhone.

Also helps for me. I have 4 calendars:
1) study -> the most important thing I should concern myself with
2) personal -> everything else

then two evaluation calendars:
3) done
4) not done

When a moment has passed, I move it to one of these calendars, so my calendar becomes a reflection tool.

I think that different calendars, with different colors, can help to get a better overview of you week and separate between what is important and what is not.

So, in short: different calendars boost my productivity
