View Full Version : Best stimulant I have ever tried

Without a doubt. I have tried them all, and none of them nearly hold a candle to what Focalin does for me. The only catch is getting it to work, which can be tricky. But, I have found that once it does work, it continues to work unless a major change in routine is made.

List of my experienced Focalin benefits:

Complete elimination of anxiety
Normal, clear thought process
Much better ability to express emotion
Creativity through the roof
Excellent motivation
Great enjoyment in nearly everything
Far greater social life due to increased confidence and ability to think (easier to converse, give advice, offer solutions etc)

These benefits morph into additional sub benefits that are a result of the core benefit, such as the greater confidence resulting in a better love life. The newfound ability to perform and concentrate will result in a more enjoyable, and lucrative career. The increased motivation will improve quality of life, whether it be being more organized, having a cleaner home or car, looking and feeling better as you will be more motivated to exercise etc. The benefits of this drug (at least for me) are endless and compound with time, there is nothing like it (again, in my experience).

It's as if it makes me feel normal, I no longer have that curtain of anxiety feeling behind my eyes, so normal tasks become leaps and bounds easier (not to mention more enjoyable) after being so used to doing them while having to cope with brain fog.

Like I said before - there can be times when you find it not working like it once was. I say to pay attention to the human basic needs for well being (sleep, exercise, diet, hydration etc). I struggled for a long time desperate for it to work again, after it had worked so long. It was so difficult to function without it, after being able to function with it so long.

I originally took Focalin for roughly a year which of coursed it worked, and worked consistently for long term. Ran into a problem with Ambien a little over 2 years ago in which Focalin no longer worked, I was crushed. I spent time trying other med's (adderall, vyvanse, concerta, ritalin) all which were inferior to Focalin. But I just could not get it to work like it once did, it would make me high and then just offer the terrible crash it is infamous for.

I was also experiencing heart palpitations (which ultimately ended up as a result of dehydration & lack of electrolytes) that I feared were a result of moderate long term Focalin use, but was happy to find out my heart was healthy after both an EKG and echocardiogram

Just last week I was able to have it work again, I did not get high from it. I got the results I was supposed to, the ones I listed above and got originally. I believe what did the trick was weightlifting and hydration, also abstinence from porn. If you look up the symptoms of low testosterone they are very ADD-like. I was able to get it to work again, and literally could not of been happier, got my life back. Had a great week, but then made a dumb mistake. Took 20mg as opposed to my usual 10, anxiety was back. Took a 20mg celexa out of desperation which was clearly the wrong choice, so now back to square one hoping it will work again, and it will (in which it will be worth all the pain along the way).

Wow that's interesting...I've tried Adderall IR, ER, Vyvanse, Ritalin, Dexedrine...no results.

I've tried all those minus Dexedrine with no results as well. Focalin works right away upon its original and first use, but long term success with it is tricky yet rewarding

For me:
Adderall XR= kick in the pants get up and do stuff all driven by anxious thoughts.
Vyvanse= Slightly less the adderall effect with less anxiety but more aggressive tendencies.
Concerta= Clearheadedness with horrible anxious comedown. No real energy boost.
Ritalin IR= Clearheadedness with more frequent anxious comedowns. Oddly I would take a half dose and get really sleepy before bed.
Barr Adderall IR = Jury is out. I am having severe muscle tightness but good focus and mood. But I have recently had a blood test which said I had a elevated ANA (white blood cell) level. So not sure if muscle tightness is related to barr.
I am curious about focalin, if It would have the Concerta effect without the anxiety it would be great. When I asked my doctor about it she said it was "for little kids". Another reason why I am looking for a new doctor. :-)
Thats my $ .02

Jgh1987: Do you take the generic or Brand Focalin?

I just got a fresh script of brand and it is insanely great. so much easier on you than generic, not to mention it actually working!

Brand Focalin does not work AS well as generic, but seems to be far less harsh. However, when working, generic is far superior. But like I said before (unless completely new to the drug), the trick is getting it to work. Fortunately, once it starts working, it will continue to do so.

I think I'm probably on too low of a dose since I just started it, I'm only on 10mg. Brand name XR

Hmm very interesting. I'm in need of the medication to help me work better in school so hopefully with raising the dose the doc can figure it out, or if she decides to go generic.
(I like that there is a Focalin prescription program) because I don't have insurance.

She seems smart. She put me on Provigil and Latuda to complement the Focalin.

I've been on focalin xr brand name, 20mg 2x a day and continue to have racing thoughts. I've been on it close to a year and am wondering if i'm at a good dose or if i need to try another med. I tried vyanse a while ago and the crash was horrible, concerta was great but i broke out in hives (yes i know, even the doctor never head of it before) and straterra which did nothing.

A year is a long time. Your doctor hasn't recommended anything different?

I just took 20mg and I'm about to fall asleep!

He hasn't wanted to change much recently, i go and see him next week and was thinking about talking to him then. I didn't think a year was a long time, but maybe it is?

In my opinion it is. My doctors have been working with me every couple of weeks to try and find the right combination.

When i first started seeing him a little over a year ago, we tried a few different ones and the focalin seemed to be the best one up to that point and part of it's been my fault in telling him that it's working ok, not great but not as bad as some.

Here's another tip from me: a high fat breakfast appears to make a positive difference in its effectiveness and duration.

Give it a shot

when you say that a high fat breakfast what exactly did you consume this morning?

G252013

The traditional eggs bacon sausage etc

G252013

also, wait at least 20 minutes or so after eating. I took mine today probably 5 minutes post eating and had a bad day (anxiety). Yesterday, I waited till I drove home from denny's to take it, as opposed to bringing it with me today and taking it after hopping in the car to go home.

I will test this theory again tomorrow and will be back with results

I'm going to try waiting about 20 minutes after eating and see if that helps. Thanks for the advice!

I'm on 30mg a day and still haven't noticed improvement unfortunately.

How come it is difficult to tell?
I am soon to be evaluated (finally!) for meds for ADD, and I have been on SSRI for about a year... It has def. helped my mood and anxiety, but I think I will need something more (or some other therapist?) to get the last bit sorted out...

Do you guys reckon that quitting SSRI is possible if you take the ADD medicine?
I guess as with everything else, SSRI will decrease the efficiency - or at least the feeling of efficiency - from the ADD meds?
Thnx ;)

I just cannot tolerate some of them. For example celexa . I am taking next to nothing and my motivation and drive is out. I guess since I needed wellbutrin to help with my depression and vigor that it does make sense how an ssri can take that down if I was already having issues with it. I dont know. I am just struggling on a low , low dose . It's like 2mg for crying out loud. I'm done. I'm thankful for one thing and that one thing is that atleast my dose is tiny so stopping shouldn't cause issues.

I take 40mg Focalin XR in the morning with 150mg Wellbutrin. I have another 150mg Wellbutrin at 1pm and if needed, 20mg of Ritalin IR for a late afternoon boost.

How long does one dose (one tablet) of Focalin IR last for everyone here?
Any difference between generic vs Brand.

I'm asking this because I will be starting either: generic Focalin OR generic Ritalin next month (January 2nd I have my appointment).
I have to pick one.
(I haven't been on meds for a while)

How's that working for you?

It works "ok". I don't feel any euphoria when it kicks in, I just notice I am more alert and able to focus better. I am on an insulin resistant and low cholesterol diet, so I am kind of limited in what I eat in the mornings. Typically I eat some Eggbeaters on multigrain, low-cal bread or a cup of oatmeal. The Wellbutrin... TBH I am not sure what it is suppose to do. I notice nothing different mood-wise, anxiety-wise, efficacy of Focalin, etc... Then again, I am moderately chilled out most of the time. I rarely boost with Ritalin IR. There has to be some sort of emergency with work or home for me to bother.

This is the perfect way to describe Adderall. I've been taking it for a couple months and was having trouble explaining how it made me feel but this is perfect. It helps me get stuff done, but it's in sort of an anxious-panicky way. I've read that this is because Adderall is a racemic mixture of L/R- amphetamines. This L-amphetamine is whats known to cause this anxious feeling. Vyvanse and dexedrine are all D-amphetamine which is why they tend not to cause this. I'm gunna switch off adderall soon and ask if I can try vyvanse to see if it makes me feel less anxious.

Adderall makes me fidgety too but I found if I take a high enough dose it actually helps me focus. I have an extremely hard time finding the right med/dosage. Vyvanse and Focalin make me sleepy and Ritalin mixed with Adderall helps me focus. I have found on these forums that what works for one person might have a completely opposite effect on the next person.

Does prozac have the same effect on you as well ? I guess I retract my fist statement. It's not that prozac makes me focus on work , I guess it just does a good job of stopping thought patterns and what if thoughts and inturn does probably in my opinion the absolute best out of any ssri for helping social shyness and break down that wall. I take prozac and I don't for a second act shy anylonger. I speak whats on my mind. I like that aspect. You have to think , its alarming to somepeople if you haven't stood up for yourself and all of a sudden start cracking skulls.
