View Full Version : Getting Documentation Tara 05-30-03, 05:00 PM Misclee did they give you any type of documentation? misclee 05-30-03, 08:56 PM Nothing for me, but for my daughter the psychologist just wrote a stupid letter that says this: To whom it may concern: I saw the above named patient for a psychiatric evaluation and treatment recommendations for her problems with attention. She does appear to have significant problems with inattention and I am therefore recommending she undergo a trial of stimulant medication with her primary care provider. Her primary care doctor has agreed to do this. That's it! Not even an official diagnosis. What do you think I should do? As for me, my doctor doesn't really believe I have ADD, but more like an anxiety disorder, so I doubt I will be able to get anything from her. I'm just glad she's willing to try out the meds! I am not very happy with any of this. I fit the addult ADHD stereotype perfectly, but because I don't remember my childhood, they say my symptoms weren't before age 7. joanrdtobe 05-30-03, 09:13 PM That's a tough one....I wonder what the doctor wrote in your medical chart....there must have been some kind of diagnosis she wrote there besides generalized anxiety disorder....because since you were given "Strattera" -- an ADD med....she would need reason to have given you the STrattera....um, can you get copy of your medical record? (legally yes)...and see if anything is written about "ADD"? Tara 05-30-03, 09:48 PM That does seem weird too. You could tell you that you want documention of your AD/HD and if she can't give to you ask her if she can refer you to somebody that will. misclee 05-30-03, 11:29 PM Yeah, it's just that financially I can't afford to see anyone else....I'll ask though because I'd really like to see what they are thinking. What do you think of the letter my daughters doctor wrote? Do you think it's sufficient? Garry 05-30-03, 11:53 PM I must admit that I do feel sorry for you Americans when it comes to heath benifits we can go to the doc whenever we want and I have never in my life even thought about the aspect of paying him All our prescriptions cost is a $3 dipencing fee and the druggist sends the bill to the helth plan that my wife belongs to joanrdtobe 05-31-03, 01:52 PM Originally posted by misclee To whom it may concern: I saw the above named patient for a psychiatric evaluation and treatment recommendations for her problems with attention. Probably not....in other words Misclee, you want a letter that says: Diagnosis: blah blah blah Medications: blah blah blah and other secondary diagnoses are listed as well....that's how my doctor did it anyway.... Because without the exact diagnosis, "problems with attention" may be interpreted as someone with depression...or something else... joanrdtobe 05-31-03, 01:54 PM Garry -- I'm glad you have it so easy in Canada....BUT so many people want to be on Strattera and it hasn't been made available there yet....why IS that?:) Andrew 05-31-03, 03:47 PM Each government has a different set of requirements & timeframes for approving a new medication. Some countries are more conservative than the United States, and take longer before a medication is approved. Also, in countries with social medicine, or where the cost of medication is offset by government programs/funding, it may take longer. misclee 05-31-03, 10:53 PM Hey, I just made a post here and it didn't show up! misclee 05-31-03, 10:55 PM Anyway, I will call the doc next week for clarification of my daughter's diagnosis. I am very frustrated with out system right now. Dannydorm 05-31-03, 11:00 PM listen misclee darlin' (with the pretty name:) ) you legally have a right to this clarification. remember that. there can be no ambiguity with regard to a diagnosis and medications. worse comes to worse, SEE that doctor again and insist on diagnosis and medical reason for her putting your daughter on the medication she did. she may need to provide this info someday to somebody, for example if medical records are ever audited. how's the stratera going by the way? misclee 05-31-03, 11:12 PM Okay, I will Danny. Strattera is okay, I get REALLY tired in the afternoon, but other than that, so far so good. I don't really know if I've noticed any improvement because I still feel kind of jittery from it. I think once I reach baseline it will be better. thanks! |
