We live in GA and I want to switch my son back to Adderall (XR) because the Vyvanse is causing side effects. My Dr and the pharmacist are telling me the company is presently not producing anymore and they are running out - the pharmacy can't guarantee that next month they will still have some left. What gives? Is this common? What should i do?

Here is an article about it: Adderall shortage has ADHD patients, parents scrambling for ... ( 2Fadderall-shortage-has-adhd-patients-parents-scrambling-for-answers%2F1204576&ei=747nTvqBKYaw2QXJv7WjCQ&usg=AFQjCNFcSq9Qytkanc46pOs88adEx3m4yA&sig2=FYl4c3e4dNjQX2uSWL4tXQ)

And from the FDA: Drug Shortages > Current Drug Shortages (

Thanks for the reply - I knew about the shortage or lack of generic adderall like the article says but now they are telling me there is a shortage of the brand name extended release, which is what we wanted. Geez. I may have to try something else like Ritalin...I just hate playing around with it like that.

Wow, that's very interesting as well as unfortunate. Can't they just run the factory on extra shifts until they get enough?

Also, the article mentions that brand name Adderall XR is still available. Although many insurance companies won't pay for brand name Adderall XR, if your doctor writes "brand name necessary" on the prescription, they usually will.

This is really making me nervous... My son is about to run out of his Adderall xr and the prescription has not been sent to us yet. I feel like I need some time to pharmacy hop with this shortage. uggghhh!!!
