Am I the only one that has no patience to hand-write things out? I swear, my handwriting is worse than a doctor's prescription. Even my signature is a hurried affair.

View Full Version : No Patience to write Andrew 03-06-03, 10:51 AM Am I the only one that has no patience to hand-write things out? I swear, my handwriting is worse than a doctor's prescription. Even my signature is a hurried affair. Mary 03-07-03, 10:26 PM Big. I used to write everything out. Used to send letters that were hand written. Now I send email. Much easier, and cheaper... unless the person doesn't have a computer. David 03-07-03, 10:34 PM My handwriting could be a consideration for a new encryption for the CIA, NSA, etc.. Ok.. It's not that bad, but you get the point. :) Tara 03-08-03, 04:20 PM I have been so used to doing everything on the computer for so long. It's really adjustment now that I'm I have to take notes in some of my classes.. Andrew 03-08-03, 04:37 PM Taking notes by hand, for school or for work, has clearly remained an issue with me. If at all possible, I will bring my laptop or even a PDA to take notes, rather than take notes by hand. Its actually pretty funny reading my handwritten notes, as they clearly reflect what my short term memory has NOT retained...lol. Andi 03-10-03, 01:29 PM Be proud of me, this is my first post. I take notes on my laptop every Monday night in my Business class, in addition to chatting in my home away from home, the ADD chat-room. I have actually been warned to use the more conventional method of taking notes because my typing has been considered a distraction to others. Part of me believes that the instructor feels as though I'm not paying attention to his/her presentation (which there are times I must admit I am not, but I glean from them the information I require to succeed). I have not heeded this warning simply because, like many in this growing technological society, my handwriting skills have become labored, illegible, and unclear. It is easier and less time consuming for me to type, besides, what better method is there to catch grammar and spelling errors then auto-spell check, which by the way I believe messenger and all other chatting forums should incorporate into their programs. (Isn’t that a lofty goal?) By typing I can manage my notes, expand upon them during a break, organize them, and actually use them and share them with others. God only knows what I would have achieved if we possessed this technology when I was younger…then again, knowing me I would have found a different way to doodle or sporadically break away from my notes into a poem or short story…but at least what I would have typed could have been organized and used later, unlike the scrawled notes hidden amidst countless stanzas and geometric shapes. (Is this post long enough yet? Big hon, you will be sorry for inviting me to this forum.) To this day, the smells of a new pad of paper and a freshly sharpened pencil still fuels the embers of inspiration hidden deep within…but as you can plainly see, with typing I can ramble on forever. Andi Lafnalot 03-10-03, 01:57 PM I feel funny saying this but I feel most comfortable with a pen and paper to begin any writing project. It doesnt feel permanent, I have it right in front of me, I can cross it out but still see what i originally wrote in case it was a cool line and can be used elsewhere....etc. Maybe its the years of art training, but I feel more comfortable with a pen and paper. My typing should come with an interpreter. I am so bad about paper and pens, that my husband and I agreed that i will not go into any stationary or office supply places with out having first talked it over, decided what I'm buy and wait a few hours. I adore the smell and feel of paper...lol ...it's like it's a beautiful project waiting to happen and waiting for me. Now I do use my pda, but thats because its small, I can fit alot of info in one small notebook size object, i can carry it in my scrubs and have the info asked of me quickly...and it beeps to remind me of stuff, which I need. Andrew 03-10-03, 03:39 PM :D PDA Lafnalot 03-10-03, 05:20 PM **Grins like a chimp** Love the avy! ;) Mary 03-12-03, 11:37 AM I posted earlier on this subject... I don't write letters much anymore, but I do all my poems and songwriting by hand first. Something about seeing them in written form instead of print makes them more real. irish_lady4 03-13-03, 09:12 AM I hate writing, i always no what i want to write down but can never get it onto the paper the way i want it, i also find typing hard aswell, if i was able to paint a picture of everything i want to say i would be in heaven!! lol doesnt stop me talking tho lol irish_lady4 Andrew 03-13-03, 09:44 AM Perhaps voice recognition software would work out well for you, Lynne. It takes some time to teach the computer your particular way of saying things, but you'll be able to "type" at the speed that you speak. irish_lady4 03-13-03, 07:54 PM wow that sounds so cool big!! and to type that fast hehehe we irish do talk fast u know!!!!!! Lynne phischeyeat 03-26-03, 05:24 PM I cannot begin to recount the number of times (from classrooms to sales meetings) I have looked at my "notes" and I have not had even an inkling of what the hiroglyphics on the paper mean. I mean no clue whatsoever! For some reason I have resisted a PDA, I think I perceive entering notes in them as cumbersome. maverick_princess 04-07-03, 12:17 AM I cannot tell you how the computer has helped me, especially with my writing. I have been told, both by family and by friends and teachers, that my handwriting is 'horrible' and 'like that of a doctor'. BTW -- for the digitally illiterate, what's a PDA? Andrew 04-07-03, 08:20 AM PDA = Personal Digital Assistant Examples include: Palm, Compaq iPAQ They have handwriting recognition, allowing you to write on the PDA and it converts your handwriting to typed words. It also offers you the ability to tap a digital keyboard with a small stylus (closely resembles a small plastic pencil). PDAs have a calendar, notepad, reminders, alarms, rolodex, calculator, and some of the more recent models are in color, offer media playback, like MP3s and even Internet access! |
