So I went for my appt with the general psychiatrist, and he thinks I have depression/anxiety with a possible bipolar. But not ADHD. Is this a usual cover-your-***-before-prescribing-ADHD-meds type thing? Some people have mentioned it and I'm pretty sure depression/anxiety isn't the case with me, but I would like to know what others think/have experienced :)

Also, will Pristiq help my mood if ut turns out I actually do have ADHD or will it simply make things worse? I have had a look online about the side effects of mis-prescribing Pristiq and I hope to heck they can help, but I would also like to know what to expect if they don't help and what it is likely to mean. If anyone has any advice or knowledge of this I would be greateful if you posted as I am freaking out a little from what user reviews ahve said about Pristiq. Thanks

I don't have any experience with said med, but I'll tell you what others have told me since I heard almost the same thing from a neuropsych this week: Get a second opinion. If nothing else, it will give you peace of mind and get you on the right track.

im not sure if its a CYA or not

but they can only go by what you tell them

i dont know if you did this or not, but i found it helps to write a detailed list of every symptom/issue that affects your life

if i dont i tend to forget to say most things i wanted to

and leaving things out tends to skew results

so if you didnt do this , and you feel the doctor isnt getting the whole picture, give it a try

Thanks so much for the replies!

@daveddd, I didn't write down a list of symptoms... and I can't remember if I left anything out! I did feel as though the pdoc wasn't really listening to what I was actually saying though, just picking out the key words and putting me in a box... I will definitely take a list next time :)

@RobsJenna, thank you for your advice :) I was considering getting a second opinion from someone who actually specialises in ADHD diagnosis because the pdoc I was referred to is just a general psychiatrist.
