CBT is totally ineffective in treating the primary symptoms of ADHD. The only proven method of symptom control is the use of stimulant or non-stimulant medications such as Ritalin, Adderall, Dexedrine, Wellbutrin, Strattera, etc.

CBT MAY be helpful in treating conditions like depression or anxiety that occur secondary to ADHD.

However, if unsuccessful, treatment with appropriate medications eg. SSRI antidepressants, benzodiazepines, etc. is indicated.
