Hi, folks, there are numerous remodies you can try for ADD, but the problem is will they cross over into the brain, second , the effects from say adderall or Ritalin etc, are overpowering the supplements, so its hard to know if they are working.
Now if you are not taking any stimulants, I would say amino acids, antioxidants and vitamins are most important. I was just up Barns and Nobles books store and there are alot of ADD books, but none that really were great, except for one, and I beleive it has a blue cover and says 6 types of add.
I take alot, of supplements, which may be too many, and counter acting one another, but since there natural, and not hurting anything,(so far), well, Im always trying to perfect a routine which is hard, because i forget to take them all the time, but i wont for get adderall, mmm thats funny. But usually I take them within the day.
My objective now is cleansing my body, because your intestinal track can be all "cluttered" not allowing nutrients and even the drugs to be absorbed.
ALso, detoxifying the brain with some supplements like omegas help repair nerve cells so the Neurotransmitters can "fit in" better. Its very interesting what you learn, and I learn something new everyday. Top 5 in my opinon, are Omega 3's, L-Tyrosine, B-complex, L-Theanine, Acidopholis.

Wow that is interesting. So far now I am only taking vit B and omega sometime. I don take it regular but i take it as a form of eating sardines with about 1g of omega 3 fatty acids whenever I can. Perhaps like once a week or something. I am not sure if I am meeting the requirements but with the vit Bs and Cs and sometimes gingko, I swear that I really feel better. I don get so lethargy, more concentration and most important is less depressive and feeling better overall. I also try to keep thinking positive, I mean I just seldom get the negative thoughts lately I think so. I am not sure if the depression will hit me this month when I get my pms, but maybe because it hit me every month during pms. I dono what is L-tyrosine, is it protein? and what is L-theanine? Where can I find foods naturally enriched with these? Coz right now I don really have money to buy the extra vitamins. I can only afford so little of vitamins with my limited money. Did u personally try it, how does it work? How long do u take to see the improvements?

MindResearcher thanks for sharing your on-going research, I really appreciate your posts!
My son's teacher reported that his tics seem less severe after we've been pushing the cod liver oil (omega3) caps on him. Now to me his tics are worse so I'm not 100% convinced but maybe he's able to hold back during the day better, don't know. If I'm learning correctly tourettes sufferers produce too much dopamine and the fish oil caps somehow help with the dopamine absorption?

L-theanine is the predominant amino acid found in green tea, most people claim that green tea relaxes without causing drowsiness. L-theanine found only in green tea and a few mushrooms. Three to four cups of green tea equal about 100-200 mg of theanine.
L-tyrosine WARNING persons taking MAO inhibitors for depression should not take tyrosine because the combo make lead to sudden dangerous high blood pressure. (above copied from greatVistaChemicals.com)

Foods rich in l-tyrosine are: 1. Seafood 2. Poultry 3. Meat 4. Tofu 5. Beans 6. Oatmeal 7. Sesame seeds 8. Avocados 9. Pumpkin seeds 10. Lima beans 11.
L-tyrosine, through its effect on neurotransmitters, may affect several health conditions, including Parkinson’s disease, depression, and other mood disorders. Studies have suggested that tyrosine may help people with depression.1 Preliminary findings indicate a beneficial effect of tyrosine, along with other amino acids, in people affected by dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.2 Due to its role as a precursor to norepinephrine and epinephrine (two of the body’s main stress-related hormones) tyrosine may also ease the adverse effects of environmental, psychosocial, and physical stress

Dreamer your eating sardines reminds me of something I learned awhile back.
I was making fruit smoothies with fresh ground flax seed (ironically recommended by a female pharmacist -who went out of her way and delivered to me at work- a used grinder, recipes and some flax seed--can you believe it? such a NICE out-of-the-blue good deed).
Anyway this did help with pms-type symptoms (menopause for me) but I'm not truly sure if it was just from doing something nice for myself (making the fruit smoothie).

Excuse the rambling: what I learned was taking the flax seed (or fish oil caps) lasted in your body for about 4-6 hours but eating fish (salmon) lasted 4 DAYS!

So I say 'atta girl' DreamerAlive keep up the research and try to eat foods rich in the amino acids you need!

Check out John F. Taylor ,PhD.'s Helping Your ADD Child. Keep in mind though that there still hasn't been any research that has been found to support diet and nutrition as treatments for ADHD. Having said that, Omega 3 long chain fatty acids seem to hold the most promise. I take them daily as an adjunct to meds and excercise. I also have great respect for Dr.Taylor and would attend another of his workshops without hesitation.Good luck.
