Hi,

I'm currenty the king of focalin around here. Specifically of the xr version. Well, I noticed how well it worked and then sure enough I'd crash and burn. I would like to let you all know that by taking concerta as a background base and using instant release focalin this problem has resolved. Its the way to go , and it's much smoother this way. Any questions?

You may be the king of the XR variant, but I am ruler of the IR Focalin kingdom

Concerta lasts too long for me :(

From this point on, there will be absolutely no questioning of your royalty and or ability to govern the Focalin XR Kingdom in which you rule

yup. well I'm king of concerta and ritalin too. Wonder if I should put that on my signature and update it on my resume's when I'm sending those out to companies. They will probably cry or break down in fear of the obvious. Anyways, my loyal following of ladies of all ages factored into my rise to king. That and the fact that my fastball was clocked at 94-96 doesnt hurt either. Instant king. As king I'm happy to frown on all ssri's, snri's and alot of other adjuvants that encourage my rantings...

Stupid question for the focalin royalty from focalin commoner :D
I took my 2nd day of 30mg about an hour - hour 1/2 ago and now I'm feeling extremely jittery and nervous. My blood feels like its rushing and its warm. Its kinda uncomfortable. I felt this a little bit on 20mg but it wasn't bothersome and usually went away pretty quickly.
Is this possibly a sign that 30mg is too much? It feels yucky lol.

G252013
02-29-12, 01:00 PM
As the prince to the Focalin King Hollywood, it's probably too early to know since it is only the second day on 30MG. Keep your blood sugar up by snacking often, and the usual hydration etc.

I take it 20MG was ineffective?

mjoy79
02-29-12, 01:04 PM
20 mg wasn't ineffective. It was great in the mornings but wore off fast and caused several headaches. So it was decided I would try 30mg to see if this resolved that issue.
I am thirsty for sure and need to be drinking more waters. Not hungry at all but will eat something soon as well.
thank you prince to the Focalin King

Hello,

This is a common problem the xr's are funny like that . They are up and down. It's still a fantastic drug. Adding tenex really helped prolong the dip down but I'm not sure if you will want to travel that route. Honestly, the instant release is a bit more reliable if you want to go that route , when you dip old school method is too take a small dose say 5mg . That should actually get you to lunch time and then you take the other dose. Of course I don't know what your current dosages are . FYI, ritalin, focalin will not last all day. It's a myth, if it does your going to crash in between there is no other way. Thats why the instant release is always been more effective for ritalin.

mjoy79
02-29-12, 01:14 PM
wow. thank you for the information. You are very knowledgeable king of focalin.
BTW my dosage is in my signature :)

hollywood
02-29-12, 01:19 PM
How much coverage do you get with that. It's my experience that ritalin, dexmethylphenidate " focalin, and all the ritalin meds usually last about 3-4 hours when dosed. Thats the top side of the curve . Your going to get 2 solid hours and a third of average stuff with that when the med releases. I"m trying this cymbalta out. What do you think. Its been ( second week now ) and I'm just now starting to not feel so out of it. It very well may weaken your focalin. Whats your experience?

mjoy79
02-29-12, 01:33 PM
this is my 2nd day on 30mg so I'm still figuring out how its doing in my system. I'm starting to feel calmer now (not so jittery) but still very focused - so thats a good thing.
Ive been on Cymbalta since early december (I think). I was on it alone until I started Focalin a couple weeks ago. When my GP put me on Cymbalta she said it would give me a lot of motivation, etc and to take it first thing in the morning. I noticed only slight improvement in my mood and zero motivation. I pretty much slept for a couple months straight. When I had my power cut off in January due to just not looking at the bill and the disconnection notice, thats when I started seriously thinking about ADD and made an appointment with the GP to get a referral to the psych doc.

edit to add: Cymbalta and focalin together are doing well for me. Not wanting to cast too much of a negative light on cymbalta - but that it by itself just wasn't doing it for me :)

hollywood
02-29-12, 01:52 PM
So cymbalta made you tired? Slept for two months? Geez. Not sure about it

mjoy79
02-29-12, 02:10 PM
i'm not sure if it was the cymbalta that made me tired - or if it just didn't help with my existing fatigue. but part of why I slept a lot (by slept for 2 months I mean I slept a lot of the weekends during that time) was that I was trying to escape the overwhelming fog and confusion I was having as well has not having anything to do or people to hang out with (lonliness). I can't say for sure that it was the cymbalta that caused it.
but as far as anti-depressants go I prefer it over the other ones I've tried (wellbutrin, zoloft, prozac, etc) in the past. but just my experience tho.

LOL. tho it is kind of a silly thread, I decided to come in here and ask questions from these guys to see if I can get quick answers about possible side-effects, etc from taking focalin.

I'm wondering if my agitation/jitters/nervousness is a side effect that will go away with time...
also if taking 25mg is a possibility or does it only come in 10mg increments.

If you were taking instant release, the tablets are easily splitable especially with a pill cutter

I know this is may be difficult to quantify, but what are the pros of Focalin IR/XR over Ritalin/Concerta? I've always been curious, but seems there is so much less known about this compared to, say, Adderall vs. Dexedrine (though those two are largely chemically similar or the same).

hollywood
03-05-12, 10:04 AM
Known guy ,

Less body load and less peripheral stimulatory side effects I'd have to say. It's really very different than regular ritalin in my opinion , although I'd say both are effective in equally different ways. I like both. The one issue with focalin is because the xr and the drop off that it has and alot of people need the kick from the regular ritalin. I'd say the major difference is like dexedrine is to adderall your not going to get that kick with focalin that you get with ritalin and as you may already know that kick with ritalin can be alot edgier and rougher than adderall so the stimulatory or excitatory response is and can be much worse with ritalin so focalin is a good option for having a smoother drug. I've taken both and sometimes still don't know which I prefer. I have to say focalin is rather smooth and gives straight benefits which i like.

you need to get off that cymbalta. Ask for some clonidine or tenex that should help the anxiety . I'd say a beta blocker but thats weak , and doesnt help adhd. I can't do anything academic since low dose cymbalta. It's really been horrible . Looking forward to being off.
