My brother, who is attending the University of Southern California in the fall, graduated from High School last Sunday; the ceremony was awesome! He was class speaker, and his speech was both humorous, and great. However, the microphone made him sound like a different person. The commencement took place in a civic auditorium in Pasadena, a city near Los Angeles, California and home of the boring rose parade.

Anyway, today is rather exicting because I'm finally taking the written test for driving at my local DMV, and I know that I will pass.

There are three things that bum me this summer:

1. having to work
2. the fact that I won't be able to work after July 1st, as I need the money.
3. Not being able to start on the assighnned readings for next semester because none of the professors have sent me their syllabi.

Things I'm looking forward to:

1. taking time off work
2. getting ahead in my assighned reading
3. Reading more fiction novels
4. driving

5. going to Europe with a friend(maybe)

Living at home: While I like the comforts of it, especially now that I'm living at home even as I attend College, there are some disadvantages:

1. getting nagged about bedtime, room cleaning, eating habits etc, even though you're an adult.

2.having to do housework because one feels morally obligated.

3. getting nagged.

Politics: I'm mostly conservative, though I don't condemn homosexuality. However, one of my major pet peeves is when Castro's regime is put into a positive light. While I do admit that capitalism is not perfect, Castro constantly violates human rights, and life in Cuba has not improved that much. Sure there are more doctors, but what good is that if there are no medicines or supplies??? And free uni education is cool too, but not if you have to spend your summers harvesting cane, whether or not your parents approve. Look, while it could be argued that it's necessary for the overall good, I would disagree. Why? Well, IMO it's a political move. It shows young people that the state's power overides all, even their parents authority. Also, what better way to brainwash young people then working them several hours a day and keeping them in the boonies? To boot there is a shortage of everthing! You go to stores and there is nothing! My influence regarding communism stems from being the daughter of a Cuban refugee, and learning what relatives have gone through as still go through(I still have some family there and have visited twice).

The aforemented relates to another pet peeve of mine: Che Guevarra's picture on everthing from Shirts, to hats. Don't people realize that this man was a butcher? who had people executed?

College: I love being a college student but there are some things that annoy me:

1. dorm meetings: why must I go to stupid meetings to hear information that I could easily have obtain via email or online?

2. silly rules: in my college, an all women's college, non students have to be escorted, and this rule is followed anally. For example, I left a friend of mine in a kitchen for 4 lousy mins to go to the coffeshop, and the RA from the dorm citied me.

Computer games: I love computer games. Which are your favs? Well, I, for my part love Rollar Coaster Tycoon 2, Railroad Tycoon deluxe edition, biz tycoon, zoo tycoon, and mall tycoon. My least favorite game is the Sims. Why? It's boring. It's fun while the novelty is there but then one, IMO is just watching an interactive version of a spy cam. To boot, my sims always end up depressed no matter what I do.

Computer games that annoy me:1. the old school ones where you have to repeat the whole game if you lose

2. games where you can't find any good cheats

3. games that are too complicated. For example, on impulse I bought Age of Wonders II, because the tycoon games got me into strategy games. However, it was way too complicated. It's not that I'm lazy or dumb, but I'm not into games that require strategy in the way that chess does, but require strategy in a way that you can make virtual money.

Music: I love all kinds of music from Latin, to oldies and some swing, among others. However, one type of music that annoys me those songs sung by guys yelling on top of their lungs , roughly stum the guitar, and bang the drums too loudly. It literally hurts my poor ears. Another type of music that annoys me are some of the Beatles later songs such as Magical Mystery Tour as they screech
"taaaaaaaaaaa Magic Mystery Tour......"

I'm no fan of the walrus song either.

Merengue: this music, while cool, can get annoying to me if I hear more than 2 songs. Why? most of the songs have the same back beat.

Nortena Music: This music is from northern Mexico, yet sounds like polka with the 3/4 sound and accordings. As with Merengue, I can only listen to 2 songs.

Post grad plans: Well, I was thinking of going to graduate school, but I don't know what in the hell to major in, and what my life plans are. For now, it's to find the best job I can after I get my degree. Sometimes I think to myself how cool it would be to live and work abroad...anyway...

I remember dorm meetings as an undergraduate ages ago. Yes they felt like a waste of time....I think they have them just to make sure you all actually hear the information....

I too went to an all women's college as an undergraduate as well, and yes they did make a big deal out of visitors having to be escorted...ALL visitors...yes I remember it was a pain. I lived on the fourth floor with no elevator and so whenever I had a visitor I had to actually come down the stairs and escort the visitor up...a real pain...

In my opinion, if you think it would be cool to live and work abroad, that can happen.:)

In Boston, Mass. It was called Simmons College. A small 400 or so undergraduate school located in the Fenway area of Boston.....about 9 dorms...mine was the oldest...so no elevators...we had to walk those stairs...which was okay...seeing as we were also the closest to the cafeteria and so I ate like a pig...meal plans were such that we could eat all we wanted....the freshman ten? Yuh right, for me it was more like the freshman 25
:( I'm not sure where Scripps is....I've only been in Southern California a year.....WHere I go to school now is not all women's...

Cool! What a small school! Scripps is around 30-40 minutes from downtown L.A. As for the freshman 25, I can sooo relate! The meal plan was all you can eat, not to mention all the junk food and delivery food I would eat! Chicken wings at midnight? time to make a call! Now that I'm at home I eat better food, though I still sometimes indulge in candy and such. :)

Yup, I can relate to the midngiht snack-attacks...We used to get these unbelieveable submarine sandwiches...just down the street from the dorm, this guy owned this tiny little store...with a few odds and ends for sale but UNBELIEVABLE sandwiches..and his tuna subs....YUM...I can still taste them today..! Anyway....so what are you majoring in?

I'm majoring in Political Science/International Relations, which is a two in one major. My concentration is American Politics, and by the end of next semester, I'll be able to declare a history minor!:).

So what do you think you want to do with a major in Poli-sci/International Relations? And history? Go on to business school? or go into politics? or become governor? hey that would be a great for an ADD'er...to go into politics, huh? Or you could become a lawyer....OR you could international business....:)

For now, I hope to get a kickass job after graduation worthy of my talents, and I'll see from there.
