My son has a diagnosis for adhd, ocd, anxiety, depression and possible Asperger's syndrome. Is there anyone else out there that has this same diagnosis? My son is ten yrs. old and was on adderal xr 10 mg and zoloft 25 mg. He is off them both for the summer. I am wondering if I shouldput him back on them for the new school year or leave him off them. the doc has said they really were not helping him and he wants to change them. But I am worried of putting him on other meds at this point for fear of the damage that can result from the meds side effects.

Hi dmrm63: The question is: did you see any changes in your son's symptoms? I mean the doctor said they weren't really helping him, the meds that is. What do you think? You were the one who gets to see your son day in and day out. Perhaps if they were working he should remain on them(?) and then not have any changes at all.....
Dear dmrm63: I also have a 10 year old with ADHD, OCD, anxiety disorder and learning disabilities. If the current medication regimen isn't working then it is time to investigate other meds. Often kids build up a tolerance to the Adderall, requiring more and more medication, which just brings out more side effects and causes more profound exacerbations of the OCD. This is one of the reasons why I don't like Adderall for a long term ADHD med for kids with OCD and anxiety disorders. Summer is a great time to try other meds to find the "right fit" for your child. My son has tried Dexadrine, Ritalin, Clonidine, and Adderall. Currently he is on Concerta. It seems to be working very nicely and doesn't have the side effects seen with Adderall even though it is a long acting Ritalin type med. NOT ALL STIMULANT meds are the same. The thing that is also nice is that he doesn't need dosing during mid-day. The concerta lasts him for 12 hours. I would not suggest taking him off of his meds for the summer, as he still has the ADHD and will only become frustrated due to his lack of feeling in control, and getting in trouble for inappropriate behaviors. Just my opinion. I hope this helps.:)
