View Full Version : ADD = losing car ?
fasttalkingmom 11-27-04, 08:46 AM Friday 6:00am....driving around and around Walmart parking lot to find a place to park. After 1/2 hour find one.
9:00am.... waited in line for an hour and 1/2 to check out while pushing a trash barrel around filled with your "stuff" because there weren't any more cart. Tell daughter to wait on the side walk outside store and you'll get the car.
9:15am..PANIC, can't find the car where you thought you parked it. Walk back to daughter. Walk together pushing trash barrel a guy pedding toys stops you, you get away from him but flustered and now your very cold,
NO CAR......
9:45am..Go back in store your freezing cold.....Break down call husband :o husband says " I'll call you on your cell when I'm pulling into the parking lot......
10:15am..cell phone rings while waiting for husband, it's your Mom laughing at you, I guess she talked to your husband...very funny.... Thank goodness your battery is low and the phone shuts off on her, but now you don't have a phone for your husband to call you....
10:30am..... husband takes 20 mins to get to you and it's only a 6 min. ride from your house, your angry and KNOW he did it to make you mad.....
10:35am.... find car right where you parked it and just as you see it remember right where you parked it and realize why you didn't see it. That guy peddling toys !!! while trying to get away from him and flustered you didn't walk far enough to see your car....
******************************************
Later that night, you need to go to the grocery store and find you car dead in the driveway, take husband car..
Head to where you parked the car after shopping, no car, look around and see your car, thinking " weird I didn't think I park over there" Walk up to the car to see it's not yours it's one that looks just like yours...Walk back to where you thought you parked your car thinking " OMG this can't be happening to me again, what is wrong with me" just then remember you have your husband car not yours and your standing right next it
:D

One of the funniest stories I have about losing my car is the time I went out the wrong entrance of a rather large mall at closing time looking for my car. Not only did it take me a long time to find it, I had to walk all the way around the building to get to it. This mall was also about 40 minutes away from my home at the time, and I didn't have a cell phone, so calling would have been difficult in any case.
My mom does the same thing, and so does my most recent ex. What we've all taken to doing is parking in the same spot all the time, if possible. I've also found that this has gotten better since I've started meds... I actually noticed for the first time that they have signs saying "Row 1", "Row 2," etc. in the parking lot at Wal Mart, for example, and make an effort to look at them when I go there.
I parked my Big Truck (Red truck with a tanker trailer) at a truck stop once in Tennese just outside of Nashville and went in for supper.
When I came out there were now several trucks parked (most of them were red) in the same area as " I thought " I had parked mine .
When I went over to where they were I couldn't find mine and was starting to get quite concerned.
Took me a few minutes before I relized I had come out the wrong door at the truck stop and mine was on the other side of the resturant and at the far side of the parking lot as to where I was.
It was not a good feeling that is for sure
I have similar issues, i easily loose track of places, i can't learn streets , i'm often lost in the city or have difficult finding the way.. i still am not sure but i guess my issue is overfocused add, often in street i feel i'm not conscious!
done that a bunch--still do. a couple times i come out of work & shuffle up to the small white car & try to stuff the key in the door. look up & see car sitting a few spaces over :o
we have a small parking lot made even smaller because of construction going on.
*sigh* whats one more note to add to my pocket...
I do that all the time....especially when I take my wife's car instead of mine. I've even come back a few times to find a door I left open. I open the driver's door and pop the trunk to get things. I'll shut the trunk but forget about the door. My windsheild wipers will stay on after the rain stops. I just don't notice they are on. But my #1 car thing is leaving the flap that covers the gas tank cap. Usually someone will beep and point it out to me. I can't figure out why I forget to do it.
Add to that the fact that it takes me 1/2 hour to find my keys before I leave the house. Should I really be driving at all???

LeashedFreak 11-29-04, 09:49 AM Luckily I have yet to do this to myself, but I'm sure I will. (But in my own pride not call anyone) I have locked myself outta my pickup, that's a rather..."intellegent" story. But I can't put that now because I have a minute until my next class starts.

I'm just proud I've had my current car for 4 months and haven't lost the gas cap... lol.
MovingOn 11-29-04, 04:28 PM The walmart parking lot is the worst!!! How I hate to be "zoned out" when I park, and this always happens when I have a HUGE cart of groceries and its raining. The third time I decided to no longer worry about getting wet as I am heading home with the groceries anyway!
Silliest time: Just picked up my brand new beige sedan at the dealership and stopped on the way home to pick up a couple of things. Walked out.....
OHMIGOD!!!!!, when did Beige become the most popular car color????? Toyota, toyota, ford, toyota, lexus (I wish), dodge, toyota, AH HA MAZDA!!! Nope the key doesn't fit, keep going.....!
Is this why I've always bought red cars in the past?!?
And of course there's the fact that the pop-a-lock people laugh every time I call them, Shouldn't the 13th unlocking be free???
Swamp Donkey 11-29-04, 10:24 PM Red tanker truck...just outside of Nashville...driver has ADD...so that's where that truck in my yard came from...
Seriously,
I drove a pickup with a 10" lift kit and 44" tires for years--you could spot it a mile away in a parking lot--so I never had to learn to remember where I parked.
Then I changed jobs and got something more economical--a blue Honda Civic--you know the rest of the story. :embarassed:
aneededchange 11-30-04, 01:46 AM I am sooooooooooooo glad I am NOT the only one that does that.

Ouch!! I've had this happen to me a few times more than the average person, but I don't think I'm up to 13 yet! That may just be because I got myself one of those magnetic key boxes and stuck a spare key in it underneath the car. I saved myself from locking myself out of my car three times in one day before, at work.
The worst time I ever had with this was when I was selling security systems, on my way to meet a client, fairly late at night due to his schedule. I was in another county and didn't quite know where I was going, so I pulled over into this driveway, got out of the van, closed the door, and about 1 second before it shut, realized I had locked it with the van running. Luckily I had a cell phone, so I had someone on the way within about 10-15 minutes and had called the client already to tell him what was going on.
I have to always park in the same area or I can never find it. Also I forget which car I brought that day, it is easy in the summer because I always have the convertible but now I can never remember.
Was this the day after thanksgiving? If so, what the hell were you thinking going shopping on that day!!!!! I am having a panic attack just thinking about the chaos. One of my good friends goes shopping with her sister the day after thanksgiving every year, they LOVE it. She is nuts though, has 6 children and strives on chaos...augh.
