Hi;

I live in New York City. There seem to be alot of Jewish adults with ADD/ADHD.. I don't know what portion of the general population are Jewish Vs. all other faiths......

I would like to know if it would be possible to create a Forum for Jewish Adults (over 30) who have add/adhd....

I would be more then happy to volunteer my services and oversee it.....

I'm curious as to what the benefit of this forum would be? Do Jewish adults have different AD/HD issues that Atheist, Agnostic, Christian, etc adults? Are they not able to find support in the sections of the forums are already here?

You are more than welcome to post in the meditation and spirituality forum which is currently the area that ADD Forums has designated for religous discussions.

New forums are usually added after several active members of ADD Forums have shown a great interest in adding specific forums. Since you have not been very active in ADD Forums I suggest particpating in the areas that are already here. We have many members from diverse cultural backgrounds who have found support and comfort in the existing areas of ADD Forums.

If enough members show an interest in adding a forum for Jewish adults the ADD Forums Staff will certainly consider adding it.

Thank you for you suggestion.

Hi;

the reason that I have not been active ( in the past) is because there was a problem with my login info. Now that that has been cleared up, I have every intention of being an active participant...

I would like to see a forum for people who have had adverse reaction to stimulant type meds (e.g. dex so forth) and are confident they are ADHD.

A few months ago ( 35yrs old now) I was diagnosed (a few months of therapy and another refered psych Dr. opinion after speaking with me) that I am ADHD.

I took Dextroamphetamine but was "speeding" on Dex (didn't sleep for days), yet I exhibit an overwhelming amount of the symptoms (stemming back to childhood). I take Strattera (although it has stimulant effects but not as strong) now and I seem to benefit (some more sleep - but still up in the early AM).

Unfortunately I can't get over the adverse reaction I had to the stimulant type med and wonder why, if I am ADHD, then how come dex made me speed. I have heard that this type of reaction can indicate one is Bipolar but I researched it and I don't think this is the case. So in closing it would be comforting to know if other fellow ADHDers have had reactions like this?

You're encouraged to post your experiences in the specific forum sections dealing with the specific medications you're taking.

They can be found in the ADD/ADHD Medication Treatments (http://www.addforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=18) section.

Hi Addontheweb-
Welcome to the forums. Glad you're here ...I look forward to getting to know you!

I just wanted to mention that the forums are really great & the people here are really friendly --didn't want you to take offense by the admins response to your question. If there is enough interest in creating a new forum, I think the admins would consider it.

Livingwithadd posed a good question though ...in what way does being a Jewish ADDer differ from being any other sort of ADDer? My feeling is that ADD is ADD is ADD. I have felt ostracized for so long, I've always felt so very different from everyone else. The forums give me a feeling of belonging. I think that having a sub-forum devoted to one particular group (based on any characteristic -- race, religion, occupation, etc) doesn't fit with the overall feeling of together-ness here on the forums. Yes, there are separate forums for men vs. women, but there are many different challenges that ADD presents to each gender, so the separate forums make sense. But I can't think of any other groups that encounter significantly different ADD challenges from the rest of us. Well anyway, that's how I view the forums. i hope you'll stay and get to know everyone, so you can share in all the warmth & support offered by the members here. :)
