Dr Phil is anti-disabled. I certainly wouldn't buy anything from him. I haven't posted enough to be allowed to post URLs but a search for 'ragged edge magazine dr phil' should bring up a relevent article.

There are some discussions about DR Phil and ADHD here on the forums. If you do a search you can find them. I don't think Dr Phil is Anti-ADD he just clueless about ADD and many other things. He had the Dr on who he co-wrote this book with and the show wasn't very helpful to people with ADD.

He might not be anti ADD per se but as I see it we oddballs should stick together, whether we're ADD-oddballs or CP-oddballs or whatever.

But I'll get off my soapbox now. Message has been delivered, do with it what you will.

I don't like when non-mental health professionals talk about mental health. Dr. Phil is a sensationalist, money-grubbing, non-mental health professional who has "counseling certification" that is entirely too easy to get. Bah, humbug!

He is PhD but it's my understanding that he hasn't actually been liscensed since before the whole Oprah Beef Trial. I think anybody has the right to discuss mental health. I would have a lot more respect for high school drop out who educated himself about a conditon like ADD than somebody like Dr Phil who is technically a mental health professional but obviously isn't up to date on current reasearch.

His Ph.D. is not in Psychology. I can talk about mental health, and discuss it, but it would be wrong of myself to tout myself as an expert, and even more wrong if I used a Doctorate from a different degree to give myself credibility in a field in which I have no qualifications. When I speak of mental health issues, I speak as a normal person. He uses his Dr. title like a weapon, expecting that nobody will realize he's not actually a Dr. of Psychology.

I am pretty sure his Phd is in Psychology. Do you know of anywhere that that has this info. I know that Dr. Laura isn't and MD and doesn't have a PhD in psychology.

I apologize. His doctorate is in Psychology, issued by the University of North Texas. I may have been thinking about Dr. Laura when I was posting that, I don't know.

Again, I apologize for any confusion. Dr. Phil McGraw is a Psychologist.
