how i get approved for disability i am 40 years old and just been dignosed 3 months ago i am taking 10 mg adderal. also how i counter the side effect of insomia? i am unable to work and would want to know to go about getting approved for ssi thank you
I would contact your local office of the Social Security Administration. Social Security has a really tough standard for disability... chances are, with ADD, if you have ever worked a job for any significant amount of time, you wouldn't qualify. SS requires that you be completely unable to work in any occupation, that includes even the easiest jobs.
About the insomnia, there are lots of things you can try. Your doc might suggest additional or different medication. I've heard of people using melatonin. Even a glass of warm milk can be helpful (yes, it really works). When I can't sleep, which is not often, I just take a benedryl pill. That puts me out within about 20 minutes. Don't take benedryl often because you'll quickly build up tolerance to the sleep-inducing effect.

perhaps you could do as much physical activity during the day as possible, get fresh air, and in addition to the warm milk( do not make it into cocoa), turkey is supposed to have a sleep inducing chemical, tryptophan.
quiet/serene music may help, lower light levels about an hour before bed, not too hot bath and try not to think about it too much!

I agree. Warm milk and turkey. I think fresh turkey has a higher concentrate of tryptophan than turkey from the deli. I use both and sometimes melatonin but melatonin is like benedryl in that you build a tolerance to it. I have had alot of experience helping people get SSDI and have to agree with exeter. In order to get Social Security benefits your disability has to be severe enough that you cannot work for at least 12 months or more. If you are able to do sendentary type work, i.e., sitting and typing you may not qualify. The disability Blue Book lists all of the disabling conditions and criteria that is used by SSA for determining eligibility.
You may also wish to speak to your health care provider about taking your ADD medication at night. Most folks don't, but ADHD is a 24/7 issue and many of the symptoms that make life in general difficult also make sleep difficult. I know it sounds counter intuitive, but taking 30mg of adderall before bed has given me the best sleep I ever had. No waking up 16 time a night, no difficulty sleeping, and most important to me, no difficulty waking.
