Ok I have 4 pets and 2 out the liter One Black Cat Boomer and another Black Dog named buddy, pets like boomer and buddy who act on their own and seem to have mind of their own......remind me of me LOL! They resist against form of control.

Boomer was a lil **** today I put him off my lap...he comes right back and I try to lay on my side watching tv...here he comes again and croutching on me where i can not move without moving him too and he knows I know that the lil sucker is going to break out dem claws if I scare him... I pick him up and put him off of me and here he comes again in same spot...Hence the name Boomer cause he is a boomerang.

Buddy is the same as in if you tell him NO he hears it as YES and does exactly what he wants and if he takes off running he does not come home until he is ready to come back....Kinda why Sis can not handle him or me I think...we think and do on our own and free spirited.....

The other thing is My Name is Melanie and Melanie means black or dark and my most two fav animals are both black hehe...I know I weird but there ya have it LOL

Well funny you asked because I recentally found this information intriugeing... After growing up with German shepherds the first dog I got on my own was Stone. A beautiful black and silver German Shepherd, Picked him out at 3 wks. and then again out of 3 males at 5 wks. because he stopped playing to see what was going on, when he heard someone pulling up in the drive. Smartest dog. Then a year ago July I get this flea bitten 5 wk old mineratur poodle out from under a dog house. Was planning on picking out one of these dogs (litter of six 4 males) and said to myself I wouldn't want this one male, because if you messed with it at all it would squeal as if you were killin it or something. I'd never seen anything like this and have been around a lot of puppies. Well ended up with that one and he still is shy as can be very attached to me, When I was looking up something about dogs I came across an intellagence level chart on dogs and poddles are 2nd behind border collies and german shepherds are 3rd. I had already notice the intellagence in him and seeing this later, I thought to my self, One thing I can't stand is a stupid dog. I said this to a lady I work with the other day, talking about Haveing a pet peve about stupid people, " I hate a stupid dog... Do you think I would take it out of a person?" she said Yeah your right I never thought about it like that...

Well ya know how we talking about the possibility of mind reading amoungst us ADDers I really do think Buddy is ADD LOL Cause he is one heck of a smart dogand I know this dog can read our minds....Like when we had to give him a bath or take him to the vet....we did not even have to grab a leash or say....Here Buddy, That dog takes off at the very last minute or hehe grab him by the collar and lead him to the bathroom u are literally dragging this dog.

One time I was playing keep away with a sock passing it from one hand to the other and I just put the sock on side of me on a chair and buddy sat there staring at me and the sock and out of the blue jumps almost over me to get to the chair and grabs the sock.....Like saying "To hell with this **** I'll get my own damn sock" <~~~~~~LOL I would have done the same thing :D

Yes, like stone when he would get tired of me throwing the stick in the pond, he'd get out way further up the bank, knowing I would throw it in again, he's like enough of that... I am the same when I get tired of a situation I simply remove myself from it...

Does that means we really love animals when we start seeing qualities of ourselves in the pets we have?

Well thats a givin just like you can't love anyone till you love yourself first... Understanding and the balance in general, is what its all about to me, If you can not see things someone else sees, doesn't mean it isn't true. Every thing is right there in front of us if we just choose to see. My German Shepherd, Stone barks a lot, it is his way of talking to me and I know which barks mean what, he has different expressions on face too. There are many things to express ones self.

One thing about him and Boomer both...some people are lucky to have those pets who can scratch themselves or clean themselves without NOISE.....I am not one of those ppl...Both these lil suckers drive me nuts cause the noise is loud and gross ....ack!!!!!!!!!

I have had German Shepherds and I have had Border Collies. These are two very bright but very different breeds. Generally the German Shepherds are ALL FOCUS and the Border Collies are ALL OVER THE PLACE.

I have trained both breeds and you can be more assertive with the Shepherds (You have to unless you want to play Beta to their Alpha.) and you have to be more gentle and patient with the Border Collies.

Here is an example of one Border Collie I trained named Monkey Face. I put the leash on him for the first time at 7 months old. He did not fight it but he seemed not to pay any attention to me either. I took him through heel and sit thinking this scattered clown would learn nothing. I only had to do it once. He learned both commands instantly. He also learned to escape from any enclosure. He was expert at latches. He was the smartest dog I ever trained. If you ever need to explain to someone what hyperfocus is take them to a field trial for Border Collies working sheep. There is no sustained attention like that of a Border Collie with his eye on a sheep. Border Collies are ADHD!

I have to confess I would rather deal with Shepherds. Border Collies are too high energy!

Our dog Scruffy was kidnapped (with law enforcements approval and supervision) from an abusive home. She's shy and afraid of anyone she doesn't know but gives unconditional love to those who are brave enough to get past her rough exterior and rub her belly much like my son Koda.

Our dog Tic was bought for Koda but is Lexi's dog at heart. He's outgoing and silly. He sits on his dog house much like Snoopy and can jump the fence of his pen but once past his safety net he sits quietly as close to the fencing as he can get until someone rescues him and places him back inside. Lexi is alway's willing to try new things and meet new people as long as her dad or myself are close by.

Our cat Emily was rescued by both children and probably resembles me the most. She is always running and jumping around the furniture, has had to have her head removed from the blind cords several times and she'll trip you given half a chance but she's a lover and a cuddler if you can get her to sit still long enough.

Our fish don't resemble anyone or maybe all of us...who knows their fish.

The iguanna is dead but he resembled Doug just sat around blinking lazily staring at all the ruckus that makes our home.

Digitil,

Sorry to inform you, but you are completely mistaken :p. There are 3 amazing, brilliant, highly intellectual dogs on the planet....their names are Scout, Elvis, and Harley.....and they're sitting right beside me this very moment!!!! Boston Terriers, all of them, and the best dogs I've ever owned hands down. I can whisper something to these guys and they totally know what I'm talking about. Had a lot of dogs growing up, but these three blow my mind. Not hyper at all, but playful. Not aggressive at all, but protective. Endlessly devoted to my children. And silly as can be just when you're feeling like crap and need a laugh, which for me is right now. Somehow when they climb up here and seem to find utter bliss by merely cuddling up beside me it reminds me that all is right with the world.

I think the question was who do they look like? Well, Scout looks like he should have been in To Kill a Mockingbird, fighting for social justice along with his human counterpart...Elvis looks like he should be gyrating on a stage somewhere with women swooning at the sight, and Harley looks like he should be hightailing it down the road on a motorcycle, big silly grin on his face......thus, their perfect names.

It's funny about the noise thing. My ex had a beagle that lived behind him and that dog would just howl for hours. I used to laugh until the cops showed up one night telling us to cut down the music which we had turned up to maximum volume so as to drown out the dog!!!!!

Scout, Elvis, and Harley make most of their noise while sleeping.....they snore like CHAMPS!!! They also tend to pass gas with a heck of a lot of gusto, but that's probably more information that anyone needed to know!!;) :D

Glad to know there's at least ONE person out there with their pet as an avatar!
That's Gunner, at about 8 wks. He has grown A LOT since then, let me tell ya! He's a German Wirehair Pointer, and he's the cutest and ugliest dog I've ever set eyes on!
I totally hear everyone on the noise thing! Gunner (Jr to the fam) is a champion snorer, burper, and gas passer (Worst smell imaginable. We can't even stay in the room after he's let one rip).
I don't know who he looks like, though. He's got this HUGE beard that he uses to get everyone's lap wet and make us look like we just peed our pants.
He's smart, too, and I can sympathize with whoever is was that was talking about their dog figuring out latches. I don't know how many neighbors he's annoyed, but it's sure to be all of them.
Isn't it funny how each dog's personality tends to generally reflect the personality of the owner?
