Hi all!
I saw a dayplanner online a while ago that I wanted to try out, but it was out of my price range... so I designed it on word. I've been using it for 3 weeks and let me just say that IT'S AWESOME!!! It pretty much solves my issues of losing "to-do" scarps of paper... b/c I have a "brainstorming list" built into my planner now...
It's also good b/c it has everything laid out for the week...
I'll try to explain it as best as I can...
set up is in colums. 8 colums across 2 pages (can adjust the size)
three sections (horizontal)
1) "brainstorming area". 8 columns, YOU choose 8 categories of your life (eg: work, school, health/personal, fun/projects, new actions, follow-up, houshold, misc) the 8th column is built in for phone calls/e-mails.
so you make up the sections, then brainstorm what you need to get done, and put each under a heading.
2) "daily to-do" each day then has a to-do list where you take items from the brainstorming area and put it in a day. you don't have to use all the items. I have put check-boxes there too.
3)"appointments area" this area has times from 7:00am until 11:30pm in 30min intervals. you block off your appointment times (colour coding helps) and then you look at your "to-do list" and add in items.
the very left side has a "calls" column and "expenses" column. I put things I buy, things I need to buy (you could put that in as "shopping" in your brainstorming list if you want), or money issues I need to take care of.
I like this b/c I see everything at once, but I also have it organized. it funnels all the info down. If I don't get something done one day/week, I can just transfer it over...
but this system has helped relieve a LOT of stress, b/c I don't feel pressured to try and remember everything anymore. I just look at the brainstorming list and I look at the daily schedule, and then I can put it on the to-do list... or if I remember something, I have a place to jot it down until I have time to transfer it to my to-do list late on.. and it's all on one sheet.
I'm working on getting it photocopied an bound. I wanted it to be half a regular sheet of paper, so it would fold up, but I'm not THAT proficient with word tables, so I'm going to resort to the photocopier and get it spiral bound at the copyshop ($3.75 with frosted plastic covers for binding!)
ANywya, if you would like me to e-mail you the file, please let me know (private message me or post here)... I'd love to share this with everyone. It's different than anything I've ever used, AND IT WORKS.. I've struggled to find a system that I like, and I feel as though I have finally found it :)
