View Full Version : Help! Are any others with ADD feeling out of control?
Woo boy...I'm not sure being medicated for ADHD is serving me well this holiday season. My emotions and thoughts are all over the map...and what makes it different now from always is that I feel so edgy and irritable, that instead of soaking it up/sucking it up like I have for years, I've been unpredictably reacting.
This is very uncomfortable for someone who is unused to speaking up/out...
And when I'm not reacting, I'm thinking racing thoughts. They have not been good thoughts.
I have to go do something tangible and positive...I'm scaring the squat out of myself right now...
Nachi2005 12-20-04, 01:31 PM Dear Stuck,
Hi,
I dont know anything about you but I know where u come from. I am feeling much the same way. I either get frustrated or get lost in thoughts..Even when I am working at solutions it feels like doing physical workout..the sheer effort of keeping ones mind awake(aware) all the time makes me so tired.
I dont have any word of advice for you..I think the kind of mental shape we are in..each one has to take his or her own course at life..whenever it feels like doing so..life cant be preached or taught or understood..but i am here for you as a friend..if need be.
Take Care.
Wishing You All the Luck and Success. I am Praying For You.
Sending blessings & Hugs,
Nachi
KISSgirl 12-20-04, 02:21 PM Hey Stuck,
What ADHD medication are you on? When it works properly, you're not suppose to feel nuts and out of control. You should feel quite the opposite, like you're finally in control and focused, not filled with racing thoughts. Make sure you keep trying different ADHD meds until you find one the one that works specifically for YOU.
And another thing that is VERY important to remember, is that if you are on any one of the "newer" SSRI depression medications like Paxil, Celexa, Prozac, etc, that you have to be extremely careful with your dosage. Specifically, if you lower, increase, or stop your SSRI medication, you have a very high probability of having withdrawl sypmtoms. The sypmtoms you described are just a few of those that most people have when the SSRI leaves their system. You've heard the cases of some people on Paxil that ended up comitting suicide? That's from the withdrawl of these anit-depressants, and thousands if not millions of those on SSRI's DON'T EVEN KNOW IT!!
Two weeks after stopping Celexa, I thought I was developing MS or had a brain tumor - went to the emergency room, had an MRI, missed out on work, visited many doctors who were clueless, because I had sever dizziness, problems lifting my legs (very heavy in all extremities) and random numbness throughout my body....only to find after refilling my Celexa presription that the symptoms faded away!!!
So, if you are on ANY SSRI, keep this in mind and if you plan on going off of it, you need to slowly reduce your dosage over MONTHS to help this rarely talked about - SHAME ON YOU DRUG COMPANIES!! - discontinuation syndrome...
GOOD LUCK!

FightingBoredom 12-20-04, 04:12 PM Hey Stuck, how much cafeine do you take in every day?
I've felt the same way many times and the past few months workload have pushed me to want MORE caffeine...which didn't help....it made me feel more out of control.
I've recently reduced my intake from what use to be as much as 6 or 8 cans of soda per day down to only one in the morning.
I don't feel completely in control but it was the only thing that helped things get better.

Kissgirl-
I had completely forgotten that I ever had heard this before...I was focusing on the comment my Dr. made that Concerta might completely relieve my symptoms, and that I might end up not needing the Effexor...so I have been conciously curtailing my intake of it...

And Fighting Boredom...I've been upping the caffeine intake...8-10 cans of Dr. Pepper, and at least one coffee drink every day!
God, no wonder I'm coming unhinged. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you guys reminding me about those two issues.
P.S...Nachi...Thanks for the good thoughts !;)
I just took some Effexor, and I've only had 4 cans of D.P. so far today...I'll try to keep it to that.
KISSgirl 12-21-04, 01:41 PM Well Stuck, that's one of the reasons we're here - to help each other remember things! Glad our posts could help :D
Oh, and that's what my doc told me too, that "if the adderall works well enough, we can probably wean you off the Celexa".... And right now I'm cutting about 5 mg off my 20 mg pill (MUST get myself a pill cutter) and plan on staying at this dose for a month or more, and will just keep going down by 5 mgs every month or so and with any luck I'll be off this crap by spring!
Keep rockin'
