I am furious about this, as I am fighting tooth and nail to get insurance companies to pay for my medication and therapy.

*Sarcasm Ahead*
Thank you to all the Scientologists who contribute money to my healthcare, and are SO concerned with my welfare. I am sure that they would love to support me and my family when I get kicked out of school. Maybe they would like us all to come and work and live with them....SANS MEDICINE!!
*Sarcasm OFF*

Now that I have vented..I have enclosed the article. This was on FoxNews' FoxLife section...at the bottom of the Fox411.

Cruise Gets Hyper About Ritalin

I see that Tom Cruise has picked up the argument advanced by Scientology against psychiatry in general and psychotropic drugs in particular. He now joins all his Scientology celeb friends in this misguided and potentially destructive cause.

Cruise visited Washington last week, according to published reports, and lobbied Congress to stop the use of Ritalin and other drugs for kids with ADHD. Scientology is waging a war against these drugs and all prescriptive medicines used for mental health including the Zoloft/Paxil family, which has helped so many people.

Why? Scientology would prefer that alienated, frustrated, depressed folk turn to them for help. But like me I'm sure you've known your share of bright-seeming children who were unable to do their schoolwork until they were given the right drugs. There is no shame in having ADHD or any other learning disability. The shame is in being so blinded by one's fierce devotion to a group that you would let a child suffer rather than get him the proper treatment.

Maybe Tom, Kirstie Alley, John Travolta, Juliette Lewis and all the other celeb Scientologists should be worrying about the environment or freedom of speech. Leave the medical work to real doctors, please.

I wonder what the Scientologists said about Cocaine since at least two of the above mentioned were strung out on it.. I guess they found them and got off? Doubtful..

Did you know that Tom Cruise has/had dyslexia? I would think that having a learning disability would make him a little more sympathetic to the AD/HD crowd. Guess not!

I used to be a big fan - then he left his beautiful wife. I sort of think less of him now . . . .
:p

i just want 2 say that the Daily Mail made similar comments about 2 years ago and i was deeply enranged by this. The aritcle went on 2 say that UK parents were responsible 4 "destroying" normal childrens lives with Ritalin when it wasnt needed. I was incensed by the comment that AD/HD is diagnosed when it is no more than hyperactivity caused by e numbers alone. It isnt and it is real and Ritalin helps. They r wrong and i disagree with people who say unsubstansiated stuff like that.

It's interesting to see that the US has it's fair share of idiots trying to b*gger things up for ADHD people. It Oz they're called politicians.

I think like so many other people these scientologists only look at one sifde of the AD/HD medication issue. I admit that that do have some valid points but they really should open their minds educate themselves about AD/HD.

These people talk about people being brain washed by the pharmesutical companies and things like that. But, if they have only looked at AD/HD from one side then haven't they in sense done the same thing?

It just amazes me at people's ignorance. There are so many people that say ADD doesn't exist or the we should use "drugs" and all that. Some people ignore these people but I like to see where they are coming from. More often than not these people have not educated themselves they just make assumptions.

I personally would like to lobby the government to revoke Scientology's status as a recognized religion... I might actually look into that, anybody here a Scientologist? I would welcome your views via PM in the "church"'s defense...

I think that religion should stay out of politics. I've grown up being Catholic, and since then I've been to a couple of other churches and they're all the same. They all try and brainwash you into believing their idology. At the end of the day it's about WWJD (what would Jesus Do) and not about silly rules. It's their man made rules that encourage narrow mindedness in some religions and that should not be a part of politics as it assumes that everyone should conform to their ideals.
