So I've been prescribed Strattera by a psychiatrist in the past, for some reason I stopped taking it about a year and a half ago, and I just started taking it again 3 weeks ago (still had the last of a 6 month supply) with very noticeable and positive effects. Being the ADHD idiot I am, I left my repeat-script-filling duties till the last minute. I just phoned him up again to get a repeat. The receptionist said "he won't send you any scripts, you haven't been here in over a year", and now my supply is finished. He can't see me for 2-3 weeks, which means I now have to go through withdrawal, then see him, pay $160 for a 2 minute session with him (he's a grumpy ******* - ironically specialising in depression), and then start the whole damn titration episode from scratch.

Cliffs:

- Ran out of Strattera supply
- Phoned doctor, he won't fax a repeat, and won't see me for 2-3 weeks
- Really don't want to go through whole withdrawal process then titration
- Can GPs prescribe this if I've been on it before??? (Rememer this isn't a stim or a drug with potential for abuse)

Yes - GPs can prescribe strattera. Some might be reluctant to though but if you take in your previous script it might be helpful.

I was on a drug called edronax, apparently it's similar to strattera, it's just an anti depressant and it's on the pbs (and i don't think stratera is) so it's cheap! regular drs can prescribe it (whether they will is another thing, i mean if you don't have a history with them).

For these drugs to be effective to treat ADD i think the dose has to be way higher than it is for treating depression...u should keep that in mind if you want your dr to give u an actual therapeutic dose for ADD

The psych should have written a letter to the referring GP to let them know the outcome of your appointment. So your GP should have a record that you're on the med. Or sometimes you can get an advance at the pharmacy. We've done that for our autistic son with toffranil.
