Does anyone have ADD and low blood sugar? If so what do you find works for you. I personally think there is some kind of connection but can't find any information on this. My thinking is if ADD messes up brain which messes up your adrenilin that in turn will dump sugar into your system which will mess up your blood sugar....there has to be some kind of connection.
When I ask Doctors about this they give me the deer in the headlights look!
Thanks
Hi John.
I don't really know what to answer either. I have trouble with my blood sugar when I eat the hot carbohydrates like sugar, potatoes, white rice, and pasta.
Coffee gets me into trouble there too as does alcohol. I have an abundance of insulin I would guess.
Running on slower burning fuels helps me stay more level emotionally and that's helped a lot. Cutting those hot carbs out was a great way to keep my weight under control.
What are the symptoms you experience? Do you want to reduce those symptoms?
Good luck with it.
Ian.

Well, you cant really have "low blood sugar" but you can be sensitive to the fluctuations or have reactive hypoglycemic. Your best bet is to research adrenal and cortisol and look into hormones & insulin. The cure is easy, frequent meals, low to no sugar and caffeine. I find I cant have caffeine or sugar on Strattera, it makes me more sensitive.

i am trying atkins for my add but i think that after following it faithfully i have more trouble studying and feel low on fuel and spacier..anyone else?
best
I could not make sense of Atkins wanting to limit my fresh fruits and vegetables. I cut the white stuff and increased my protein.
I dumped white rice, pasta, bread, potatoes and sugar. I filled up on lean protein if I was hungry. For instance I would have another helping of chicken, fish, pork, beef or whatever and leave the spuds out.
Without the increased intake of vegetables and fruit I'd surely have had trouble moving that protein through the system cleanly.
I notice a flatter curve to my emotions and an increased focus when eating small meals consisting of complex carbs and protein with no real limits on vegetables. Fruit I eat daily but it's pretty hot carb wise so I don't go nuts on it. Vegetables on the other hand I think have a track record that is pretty well proved, so I'd not be wanting to limit them at all.
Atkins makes no sense for me. I belong to a message board for runners and there was a long and detailed discussion about low carb diets. It was an excellent thread and pointed out something I hadn't considered before. It was the consensus there that people with high insulin levels benefit most from low carb diets but other than that segment of the population it's pretty much all "fad" and little substance.
I could be catagorised as hypoglycemic.
I'm sure it works well for some but I never bought into it. A modified version was really good for me though. I was always struggling to keep my fat calories down below 30% like the Canadian Cancer Society recommends. I increased my fibre significantly with the addition of four or five tablespoons of finely ground flax seed and kept the vegetables rolling. I wish I was closer to more fish! :D
Cheers! Ian.
