ok first off im new so i dont know if theres anything like this already but a search didnt seem to return anything,

anyway let me just jump right to the point, i am a huge Lucozade(powerade in america) drinker, and i was looking at the ingredients and noticed this "sunset yellow and ponceau 4R may have an adverse affect on activity and attention in childern"

this brought 2 things to mind,
1. would this count for adults aswell and what age points does it mean by kid (being 19 im kinda in both areas XD)
2.could food and drinks of certine types help or worsen add/adhd.
so my point of this thread is to answer question 1, and also possibly build a list of food and drinks to advoid and encourage for suffers of add/adhd
ill start with

ADVOID:
1. Lucozade

For me personally:

Good
* Apples
* Tea
* Yogurt
* Chicken
* Salads
* Fruits and Veggies
* Almost anything cold

Bad
* Greasy food
* Salty food
* Chocolate (OMG this makes me so hyper)
* Candy, sugar, anything with too much sugar
* Milk
* Room temperature foods

Not good for you, but helps me concentrate
* Sodas
* Energy drinks
* Ice Cream

That's just what I notice. For some reason room temp foods make me feel sort of bleh. Cold food (Anything that's fridge temp or colder like yogurt, iced tea, etc) wakes me up and helps me focus. Hot food makes me sleepy or weighed down if it has grease or too much salt.

I think it should be interesting to see if other people have similar foods, then we might be onto something. :D

yes for me cold foods do help me perk up alot, but that may be to cold being "uncomfortable" if you know what i mean also for me greasy food doesnt do anything to my concentration, but can make me feel sick at times, and i dont suffer hyper activity from any sugary foods, i just naturally dont shut up xD

but ye it would be intresting to see if we could compile a list of foods to help people stay concentrated especially if they have to cram on something or for subjects in school/collage that they dont like in general, or maybe even just school collage in general, because it can be hard enough for the average person, so itd obviously be harder for people on this board usually, then if foods can affect your conectraion and worsen add then it could be even harder again, so this thread could possibly help people,

for example, the point that made this thread, lucozade, i HAVE to cut back after reading that xD and also i only realised about how soup which i loves actually makes me too comfotable and conectrate less, so looks like imma be having water and ice cream for lunch today xD

also i dont see an edit button, maybe im blind, or limited due to being new, but i think we should leave alchol out of it for obvious reasons, also note if any foods or drinks effect people on certine meds, as i can not judge in terms of foods/drink effecting meds because here in ireland they are not perscribed easily at all

Good
Bananas
Bread
Vegetables
Meat (Chicken, Fish)
Dark chocolate
Beans (Tuscan bean soup is lush)

Drinks
Water

Not Good but helps concentrate
Yoghurt (non-organic)
Nutella
Milo

Not good when on meds
Apple
Coffee
Food one would class as 'junk food.'

Bad
High in sugar and fat
Rich foods
Greasy foods
Chips (and other salty food)
Pizza
Milk, dairy products
Oranges
Lemons
Chilli
Coffee

Note: list relates to my food sensitivities.

Chips make me lose concentration. Pizza makes me fall asleep. I'm unsure where to put pasta because that usually puts me in a coma. I can't think at all. I'm not so sure about about concentration.

Tea also helps me relax.

I'm always curious about food effects too.

For me:

Good:(my theme is high protein and balanced fats)
Steak/chicken/fish
Organic blueberries
veggie juices
oatmeal
hamburgers with typical toppings (pickles, mustard, lettuce, tomato)
apples
baked potatoes
Ice cream - in small portions (just makes me happy:p)

Bad: (my theme is sugar and carbs)
Orange juice (turns my brain to mush)
Sugar - foods with a high sugar or carb count make me want to sleep standing up :doh:
pasta
Coffee (after the 1st cup, 2nd cup will put me to sleep)
candy - especially sour patch kids (which I love :()
Fruit smoothies (way to much sugar)
Soda
pastries/doughnuts

I'm sure there is more, but that's all I can think of at this moment.

...Not good for you, but helps me concentrate
* Sodas

...

Why do they help you to concentrate? Is the caffeine or the sugar inside them?

...

* "blue" powerade
...

Why the Blue Powerade?:confused:

since i've been on my meds, my stomach is sensitive. acidic food doesn't go down well.
Red sauce
wine
citrus fruit
Bananas aren't very good for hyperactive people.

good things for me are usually raw or on the lighter side.

fresh veggies. tons of brightly colored veggies
things with high water content. I get so fixated when I'm on my meds that i get what i call "tight mouth" it's where I can't eat or drink anything even if I wanted too.

so I make sure to eat really well when i do. no fast food or fried foods.

I read about a guy stating that yellow food is not well suited for people with ADHD, but I have no idea about why it is.:confused:

Some feel that certain chemicals affect them adversely, for instance Red Dye and Yellow Dye.

this may seem a bit odd, but personally i cant have too many colours in one servering of food, or i end up staring at it more than i eat it xD every christmas it looks like im s* of my b* because all i do is stare at lights xD

Probably the combination of caffeine/sugar + cold that helps me concentrate.

That's interesting I've always hated bananas. The smell just repulses me and I hate the taste, so I avoid them whenever possible.
