Or, is it just my computer or internet connection?

I haven't had any problems with the site so it must have something to do with your pc or your ISP.

I know in the past people who used SBC for an internet connection were having trouble connecting.

connection as in SBC Yahoo

the few times I received the error message site unavailable it was right back up within a minute or two

when I google regarding SBC connection probs they offer advice and a link to make sure you have the most update windows explorer software

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.htm

I'm sure our favorite techie Andrew will have some questions for ya to help figure out why you seem to be having problems keeping ADD Forums up and running

What kind of error did you get?
was it a mysql/database error or numbered errors (500,501,404 exetera)?

It could be that the server timed out due to being overwhelmed with connections(did it happen at a particulary busy time?)or the server's net connection was having a minor bandwith outage.

If your access to other sites was error free and as normal it can be blamed either on own net connection, disagreeing with sites from certain regions/countries,or the site's server.

If your access to other sites was not error free, then it'll be your ISPs fault.
If it was peak time,it's more likely to happen then,I get bandwith lag a fair bit during peak times with my cable connection.

Another cause of excessive bandwith hogging is nasty items like spyware, worms and viruses,if your connection is fine now then it's more than likely just regular connection problems.

Hi chaps,

Is ADDForums becoming unstable under the burden of its popularity?

Over the last 2 or 3 days, I've had more problems accessing the site, more so than I've had in the rest of the last 6 months put together.

www.adders.org (http://www.adders.org/) has crashed twice (Edit:I think more, actually) in the same period of time, sadly losing *all* previous messages.

Would ***so*** **not** want the same fate to befall Addforums ....

Do you chaps have a backup strategy?

Lovely,

SB.

There was a problem with the server over the past day. David(the site owner) is currently working the issue.

Me too. Couldn't get it to load for most of the A.M. - E.S.T. from Canada. If the site's server didn't do down or get taken off-line then I usually assume that it's a "domain name server" that went down or lost track of the site for some reason. At least I think that's what happens? These servers are basically like indexes that tell your computer where to get the info. If the index is pooched, you can't find the page. I'm not sure how it all works, but I think that there are lot of these things out there, so other pages from other DNS's will load fine??? Make any sense at all? Am I right? Big? ;-)

Best way for all of you to know whether it is the site, or your PC is to visit a well known site such as MSN.com.....or Micro$oft:D

Seriously, if you can visit other sites, it is not your PC ;)

Yeah I know that Victoria as I could go anywhere else, but due to inner working of the very complex ADD mind , the first thought is the worst thing that we have been cut off from our family and our reality.

When you can't breathe , there isn't any thing else in life that matters.........

When you can't get to the Forums , then there really isn't anything else on the web that matters.

If it wasn't for the Forums I can't think of any reason why I would need the internet as it is nothing but a pain in the *** with all the spyware, virus's, pop up advertising and push push push advertising......

Yes I know there are programs to stop popups and find and delete spyware, and check for virus's........

And what kind of world do we live in when anywhere you go on the net you have to worry about all this crap.........

At least at the forums , there is peace, tranquillity and a sence of well being and belonging some where.

There is no popups, no forced advertising, no viruses, nobody trying to shove something they are trying to sell down your throat.............

As I said earlier if it wasn't for the Forums I would probally go back to haveing a 5 hour a month dial up account so I could still check my email.......

Mind you my 14 year old daughter who lives in her MSN messenger world would probally have something to say about it ...............

I doubt if anyone could. 404 errors all the way. :( Then a message that actually said this site didn't exist. :(

Must have been something really bad because the site is usually reliable. :)

Yesterday was weird because most could log on, but all of us working together couldn't get minn306 in. Any suggestions? It would sure be nice to know what the problem is, so that we can avoid it in the future!

I, too, am fairly computer illiterate...follow instructions, though, if that's any help! :D

Kim, from experience at another forum I am on [IT Forum] it goes down for several reasons....viral attack....hacker got in....moving site.....those are the top reasons, but we all get mailed out an e-mail so we know what is wrong. Last time was a hacker..;)
