View Full Version : The Importance of Meditation

For me, meditation is a generalized word that covers anything that helps quiet our own thoughts and helps us relax. It could be listening to music, going to a park, laying down and watching your breathing, prayer, mantras, etc. It is doing something for yourself that is pro-active and not just relying on medicine to keep you well. Anybody want to share some thoughts on this?

My husband does this, and it does help. He'll come home from work and go into a quiet room for ten-fifteen minutes, then when he comes back out he's more ready to engage with the rest of us.

On the really long, stressful days when he doesn't do this, he spends the whole evening trying to escape into his head and ends up tuning out me and the boys, and while he may respond if we are persistent enough, as soon as he thinks he's addressed the current "crisis" he's right back to zoning out.

Maybe try to encourage your husband to "meditate" more often or even daily if you are noticing how helpful it seems to be.
