I have been fighting with meds and my 7 yr old daughter for almost a year at one time she was on Adderall in the am and Strattera and Clonidine at night. I took her off of them on christmas break. I went to the book store and bought Healing ADD by the Amen Clinic. I have put her and me (I am undiagnosed as of this time) on Low-Carb/High-Protein diet, walking the treadmill for 30 min a day for her and 1 hour for me, and 500 mg of L-Tyrosine twice a day (morning and afternoon for me and morning and 4:30 for her). HOLY CRAP this works. I have never felt this good in my life. I am a huge procratanator when cleaning I would clean for 1 hour and stop do 2 loads of laundry and stop and then it would stay piled up. Since doing this my house is clean my laundry is done my coubards are organized. (but I still cant spell :D ). When my daughter is not on her meds she can concentrate at school and fails miserably. Now she has been off the meds since before christmas and has been on the regimine for 2 weeks and brings home all 100% on her tests. I am thrilled with this.

But know this also my daughter is inattentive and impulsive. My friends son is ADHD and this does not work for him.

This is what l-tyrosine does:

L-Tyrosine is a more rapidly absorbed and bioavailable form of the amino acid L-tyrosine, and is less prone to urinary excretion.

L-tyrosine is converted in the body to key biologic compounds, including the neurotransmitter hormones epinephrine, dopamine, and L-dopa, and CoQ10, thyroid hormones, and melanin. The B vitamins pyridoxine (B-6) and folic acid are provided to assist in the conversion process.

Suggested Use: One tablet daily, or as recommended by your health care professional.

Warning: Contains tyrosine. Not to be used with MAO inhibitor drugs. If you are pregnant or breast feeding, consult your health care professional before using this product. [/B]

Hope this helps you all, I bought it at GNC for $8.99 a bottle

Robin,

Did it keep you or your daughter awake or make you jittery? Also how do you get your seven year old to eat low-carb? It's hard enough getting enough food down my son and he won't eat any dairy except cheese on pizza.

No it does not keep her awake. Thank goodness. I am blessed that my kids will eat just about anything. They hava a variety of food that I offer. Celery and PB, just a little more protein with less breads and carbs. I have been buying lower carb breads for her she like them "ok". Not her fav tho. I figure is she is hungry enough she will eat.

Robin, I wanted to let you know that I gave this to myself and my son two days ago. It kept me wide awake all night, not a good thing. But, for my son it worked great! I was just about to have to have his adderall mgs upped because the 10 mg was not working any more. I have to say that adding the l-tryosine has made a big difference. He is just taking it once a day, but I might try going without meds over spring break and just give him the l-tryosine. He too like your daughter is inattentive and impulsive. He has been so much calmer and happier.

Thanks for passing the information on.

I often read "not to be taken with MAO inhibitors." How about SSRIs?

I cannot answer that one for you. You would have check with your doctor. My son is taking 300 mg's in the morning with his adderall. It has been a huge help and his school work has really improved as far as him slowing down and writing neater and really paying attention to his work.

I have been taking it too and it gives me incredible focus. Although 300 mg's is too much for me because I stay awake at night (not a shakey feeling though, just wide awake.) Today I tried taking half that amount and I will work back up to the 300 mg.
