Higher Neural Mechanisms Of Odor Discrimination

Although odors may be categorized into finite primary types

(i.e.,

floral,

peppermint,

musky,

camphor,

putrid,

pungent,

ethereal),

human can discriminate -10 000 odors.

About 1000 genes coding for the same number of olfactory receptor protein types have been found in mammals...
