Tuesday I took my first dose of Adderall XR at 30 mg. It was way too much.. I didn't sleep until the sun came up, but liked the energy. Nervous about feeling so wired I asked the dr. for prescription of dex. So Wed. I took 20 mg. Didn't really feel anything.. but by early evening I think I experienced what people call "crashing". I didn't like that feeling at all. So today (Thur) I took 20 mg. of Adderall again. Energy level was better than yesterday and must more toned down then Tuesday but could have used a little more. However I noticed for the first hour my heart felt like it was tightening up. Eventually it stopped. Should I be concerned? Also after reading all these post in this forum, I am trying to figure out what the best dosage for me would be.

I'm confused about regular and XR Adderall. Is the main point of the XR is to have a second release vs. just having to take the regular one twice? I think I would like around 12-13mg in the morning and once more in the afternoon..maybe 25 mg total? How did you all figure out how to tweak it so its the best for you? Thanks.

I recently started on Adderall XR too, and other people here are better educated and experienced to answer most of your questions, but I can tell you that for me, the first dose of Adderall XR 30 mgs kept me up for like 46 hours. The next dose didn't keep me up near so long, maybe til midnight or one. The next dose the wired effect was even less. After a few days of feeling 'nothing' anymore I got my dose upped to 40 mgs. It doesn't make me feel wired either. Then I learned from E-boy that when you can FEEL the Adderall it's just the beginning side effects that go away, after that you can't physically feel that it's in you anymore, you just focus better. Hard to tell 'til you try to do something that takes focus. Anyway, just wanted to let you know that the first wired feeling and staying up all night is normal, and it goes away quickly.

It can be a trial of patience to get the right dosage! First, adderral is 75% dexadrine, so not much of a change there, and 30 mg is a very high starting dosage. Heres my experience, everyones different. I started on only 5 mg of Adderrall XR. I felt great, no side effects, but not complete relief, and I had a "fall off" about 5pm (it lasts 8-10 hours) so the doc told me to double my dose, and add 5 my of regular adderral at 4 or 5. (it has a 3-4 hour life) I can skip the eve dose if I dont have anything going on. I am easily hyped up, and I feel nothing but great on these dosages, so Id say if you cant sleep & are jittery, your definatly on to high of a dose.

My doctor told me that it's normal to try regular Adderall before trying XR - because if things don't go well with regular, it's out of your system in 8-10 hours anyway.

I take 10 mg first thing in the morning and another 10 mg around 5 pm (a little earlier if I want to go to bed early). If I need it, I add another half or whole pill somewhere in there - but what I've found is that when I feel like I need more Adderall, it's usually because I forgot to eat that day! A little nutrition works better than a little more speed.
