Hey! I just read a post that xanax can dull the effect of dex!

Now as you all know from my constant whining, my Adderall XR is not giving me the effects I'd hoped for. My doc has me on Klonopin 3 times a day, could that be dulling the stimulant effect of my Adderall?????

I would say probably, based on the way I perseave these drugs. Now with Xanax, I refer to them as "don't give a dang" pills. Because everything that is bothering you that you take these pills for, tend to make you, "not give a dang" about anymore or at least make them seem less important or overwhelming to you. Now with the stimulant they are supposed to make you feel like the things that didn't seem as important to you more important. That is what I have read, Not literally, like more, like hey this is important, I need to focus on this and get things done. Now it seems to me, one thought pattern is going to counter act the other... ????????

That's what makes sense to me too gypsy....We need a scientist in here to help us!
Xanax doesn't work on me AT ALL. No effect. Neither does the Klonopin actually. But my psych put me on it a couple of weeks ago so I'm taking it. Maybe because I'm ADHD they don't work? There was another benzo I took too...I can't remember the name...before xanax, and it didn't work either. Didn't do a darn thing.
How much xanax do you take to get the desired effect of 'don't give a dang'? Maybe I don't take enough of this stuff. But if my doc has me on Klonopin morning, noon and night, I have to assume that she knows it won't zonk me out because that wouldn't let me get much done in a day! LOL

I also take Clonazepam/Klonopin, but for an illness called Menieres Disease. The Klonopin helps dull the eighth cranial nerve, thereby dulling the sensations of vertigo. It is also used in the treatment of some anxiety conditions and in particular for seizures (petit mal) type. For the life of me I cannot see what Dr would prescribe Klonopin+Xanax and then place you on adderall. I also believe I read you said you are on Lexapro? That is an SSRI Anti Anxiety/Anti Depressant.

You are taking one upper and two downers and an SSRI, E-Girl. I would get a second opinion, because if these are prescribed by one and the same Dr, something does not seem right.

BTW, Klonopin and Xanax are both of the benzo class drugs. I cannot understand your Dr and where he/she is coming from. You really need help with sorting out these meds, because I am not surprised they are not working as they should.......they all cancel each other out to a degree. :)

Hope that helps a little.

Oh my gosh Vik! It was a psychiatrist that put me on this med combination, I was sent to her from my 2 phsychologists so she could manage my meds since I was being treated for so much.
Yes, I am on Lexapro, Klonopin, and Adderall XR. I'm not on Xanax anymore though, she replaced it with Klonopin. Should I try taking nothing but the Adderall and see what that's like? Or does it take weeks to get the Lexapro and Klonopin out of my system?
Can I just call Ask A Nurse and get their opinion on the med combo? Or ask a pharmacist?
Jeez, I have the worst time w/ doctors!!!
Thank you Viktoria. I will check it out! You're a lifesaver!

Don't stop your antidepressant cold turkey without telling your doc. You are suppose to wean off of them slowly. I am not sure how you stop the others but definitely don't jsut stop the SSRI.

I take Lexapro and I have to take it at night or else I am too sleepy during the day. Can you try just taking some at night?

Oh Fly what a wonderful idea! Will taking the Lexapro at night keep my anxieties and depression away during the day too? Or will it 'wear off' through the night? I always wondered about that...when you take meds every morning only, that must mean they wear off so that's why you need to take it again the next morning, right? Or does taking it daily just keep it built up to the same level in your system all the time and it wouldn't matter what time of day you took it? I would need it to wear off and leave my system overnight to have it not counteract the Adderall. But if it did wear off, then I wouldn't get relief from my anxiety during the day? Right? I'm so confused!
Now what about the Klonopin Fly and Vik? I am supposed to take it morning, noon and night. So it must be very short lasting, so it would be ok for me to try not taking it to see if the Adderall works better, right? I really have my doubts that those types of meds - xanax and Klonopin - have any effect on me anyway. They don't even make me sleepy. Aren't they supposed to be tranquilizers or sedatives? Shouldn't they make me calm and sleepy??
Oh you gals are gonna get me all fixed up! Now I'm excited to try this and see if it will make my Adderall work better! :D Thank you!

the only thing i can say to this is that during a recent very stressful time, i was given klonopin to take as needed. i hated the idea of it, but honestly, i needed it!!!!!i didn't notice any change in the effectiveness of my adderall at all.

the total time period i was having to use the klonopin regularly was probably a month and a half....i still have it for panic, but all my panic seems to have gone away concurrently with ex who was the source of the stinkin' panic to begin with!!

I just called Ask A Nurse who referred me to my pharmacist (who know all, don't they?). He said Klonopin SHOULD be prescribed as 'as needed' and not 3 times a day, and that it WOULD bring down the effects of my Adderall. He said the Lexapro is a stimulant too though, and would actually 'up' the effects of Adderall. And that Lexapro stays on a level keel all the time, so when I take it makes no difference, except that it makes some people sleepy, keeps some awake.
He also told me NOT to stop taking my Klonopin 3 times a day until I talk to the doc that perscribed them to me to find out her 'plan'. Maybe she had good reason (she did say that she wasn't going to treat my ADHD until she got my anxiety under control. But I begged her to death to let me try juuuuuuuust one Adderall because I was desperate to see what it would be like to have the fog lift for the first time in my life. She finally gave in to JUST ONE PILL and wrote me perscription for a bottle full of Adderall. Tried it the next day and I read something that I never could have read and understood before. No rereading same sentence over and over again, no losing my place, full concentration on only what I was reading. Never had that before. So I called her the next day and told her it worked and didn't cause more anxiety (that's what she was afraid it would do) so she ok'd me continuing on it. Now I can read, but that's it. woohoo. Would REALLY like to have some fog liftin' here!

~SusanOk, so the Xanax is off........good, no point in 2 benzodiazapines. The Klonopin that I take is only to be taken at night, and I have NO choice but to take it as it is recommended for my condition, but it does not make me sleepy at all. It never has. But the 3 times a day? Strange way of prescribing this drug, because it is so long acting, which is possibly why she took you off the Xanax. What dosage Klonopin per dose are you on?

No, don't stop ANY med without the Dr saying so. This can be real dangerous. It seems the pharmacist is also suprised at the way she is giving you Adderall and Klonopin. That utterly confuses me.

I was wondering though, you know your love for caffeine, well caffeine makes our stomachs acidic, so it might be the timing of the caffeine and adderall might make a lot of difference.

OJ is definitely out.....but I came across this on the net, and it really surprised me.....perhaps why my anit-depressants I was on years ago worked better with Soda. Not sure why, but they did.:D
