The dr also said that after 2 days on the 7 1/2 mg and we still see no diff then go to 10 mg but no further before talking to him my question is how long dose it take to see these re****s? Is it ok that we gave him the 7 1/2 recommended dose this morning and what if the 10 mg doesnt work? Could it just not work at all for him? Im new to all of this. ty for your time!

I've never heard personally of medicating so young; but, there are always extreme cases. I can't help but wonder what other symptoms your son has displayed to make his doc want to medicate him. From your post I get that he is active, talkative and easily loses distraction but so do most 4 year olds. Is this your first child? Have you joined a mommy and me class or a pre-school to see if your son's behaviour really differs from that of average 4 year olds? Do not take this wrong but sometimes to give un-biased advice we really do need more information. I'm am in no way telling you your a bad mommy for medicating one of children is medicated nor am I telling you that your doc jumped the gun I would just personally appreciate a little more information.
Thanks
Mommy (been there, done that)

hello again the behaviors that my son ahs are: extreme aggressivness, innatention, hyperness and impulsiveness. He has been seeing a child psychologist and child psychiatrist since september he and I are also going to behavior classes every thursday night. I was very weary on strting meds but it wa getting out of control and the dr could see this so they perscribed adderall but i avent seen any difference in the once a day 5 mg and the once a day 7 1/2 mg. I am also a mother of 2 and one step child.

Good so you have experiance that's a plus. I'm extremely uncomfortable medicating a child so young but it sounds like maybe you do have one of "those" kids...I have one myself *frowns*. Here is what I would do if in the same situation I would start educating myself and not taking the word of docs as that of God. Start with the dx, move on to alternative forms of treatment. There's diet (it does help), excercise (regular excercise is not only heart healthy but also activates the behaviour and impulsive transmitters), rewards for good behaviour (don't buy your child but make him earn special priveledges), pretty much your looking at changing the entire way you've parented so far. What you get is enough knowledge that doctor's will actually listen to you and let you become an active participant in your son's therapy. Ask about a new med your probably going to need the med to get behavioural programs in place or he won't be able to concentrate on them long enough. Maybe, a non-stimulant this time around.
I remember how I felt during Koda's dx and the first few stumbling blocks we ran into. I felt clumsy, stupid and a total failure. You are NOT any of those!!!! Your a mommy who loves her son more then her own life and wants to do everything right on the first try...we all want that your not alone in that un-acheivable dream.
In our experiance with Adderall it took almost two weeks before we noticed a definate change in behaviours. I'd give it a little time for his system to start using the med effectivly...there are no miracles in treating ADD/ODD just a lot of patience and hardwork but it does get easier. Use a daily journal they have them here in the forum to document your days you will not only find that members will contact you to give support on bad days but they'll contact you to cheer the good ones as well. You may also find a steady improvement that you don't normally see with the naked eye. for example he hits his sister 5 times today but when you look back you notice he hit his sister every 5 minutes three weeks ago. Sometimes, you don't notice subtle changes.
good luck Im here in the forum anytime you need me and I've always got my pm box open. Your not alone and never sadly will you be.
