This may be an odd request for this board, but I literally just learned about ADD a week ago and am trying to learn as much about it as possible. Thus far I've read The Edison Gene, Driven to Distraction and You Mean I'm Not Lazy Stupid or Crazy.
I know that there are alot of people out there that do not agree that ADD is a legitimate condition. I was curious if any of you knew of any medical resources that expressed this condition.
I ask only because I want to get *as much information* about this condition, from both sides.
Thanks.

I don't know any anti-add links. So, in a way I'm not going to answer your request. Although you did get me thinking. From my perspective, I don't really care if everybody thinks it is a legitimate condition or not. That perception doesn't change anything tangible for me. What does matter to me is that I feel like my whole life has been a struggle. Even when it appears to be going well, I am struggling inside myself. Wether or not ADD is real or not, the fact that I am now aware that I am not the only person experiencing life this way is a huge relief. Really. I've always thought that there was some strange fundamental problem with me, like at a deep core level. Add to that relief the fact that Ritalin allows me to participate in the same world as others, and suddenly I'm not alone in my world, and I can relate to people, and I have a better understanding of who I am in the first place. So, what we label that, or who believes it or not doesn't matter to
me. It is a lot like when I quit drinking. Am I an alcoholic? Who knows? All that matters to me is that my life improved dramatically and became a little more manageable when I quit drinking, which I needed help to do.
I hope you get my point, and I hope it helps. I think that your quest to learn as much as you can about it is a great idea, one that I am pursuing also. Hang in there, and keep on digging.

if you do a search for "ADD does not exist" you come up with a few hits. the ones i found were listed in the first 4 pages of results. happy reading. yes there are people who do not believe ADD is a legitimate condition. i live with one - my son. and i think the church of scientology fought tooth and nail to have it disqualified as an actual illness, but i am unsure about that.....

At my local Barnes & Noble the section on AD/HD is about evenly divided between books on how to help your ADD child, and books on what a crock ADD is.
the scientologists probably have some good information. i know they're one group that is militantly adhd.
