My daughter Kalie is 6 and was recently diagnosed with ADHD. She is taking Ritalin LA 10mg. I read before that drinking orange juice can weaken the effectiveness of the drug. Is this true and if so when would be the best time to give her a daily vitamin. I normally give it to her in the morning with breakfast, but I don't want it to interfere with her Ritalin. Thanks in advance for your help!

Not OJ, Grapefruit juice - it reacts with some medications because it alters some of the enzymes that are resonsible for breaking down chemicals in the body. Probably best not to give the Ritalin with OJ just in case. The vitamins shouldn't interfear with the ritalin in any way - if you have any doubts or questions your pharmacist can probably give you a better answer than your doctor on this type of question - and they won't charge you for a call or an office visit!

Hi Angel,
On the "drug description" insert that comes with my prescription, it says that citric acid or ascorbic acid may interfere with the absorbtion of Ritalin LA. I actually asked my doctor about this, and he said that to be on the safe side, just take my vitamin at night before bed or with dinner, instead of in the morning.
