Dmae, is a good supplement, for cognitive purposes, and also raises dopamine levels, so i suspect its positive. I take a combo supplement with 100mg of DMAE. I also just bought a product called goldminds, its DHA, but from Marine microalge oil. Its suppose to be superior to the regular DHA EPA. But I believe there is another really good form, but i cant think of it. A good product is called focus FORMULA, not focus FACTOR, you buy it ag GNC or Vitamin world. It has a good mix of dmae, phosphitylcholine, lethicin, DHA EPA, B-vitamins, Humprazine, etc. I would suspect for focus, it would be good , but for severe add or type 2 , not much luck. But worth a try.

Hey there, my first post on ADDforums.

So, DMAE I have used since it was first made OTC (over the counter as compared to prescription) in 1982 or 3... one of the earliest available smart drugs/nutrients, I have used it since way before I knew I had ADD.

It increases verbal acuity and overall mental sharpness. It doesnt necessarily cure my ADD at all, fix my disorganization or distractability, but it does make me sound verbally sharp. Its one of the main supplements in my personal morning regimen and ADD toolbox (I dont do pharmaceutical medications or the stimulants).

It naturally occurs in fish. Remember? Fish is brainfood? Its not an essential fatty acid by the way (EFAs). I do fish oils as well..cod liver oil, something like that.
Specifically it is a precursor to acetylcholine, which is one of the neurotransmitters in the brain. It was made popular both by Dirk Pearson and Sandy Shaw's groundbreaking LIfe Extension books and by Dr. Ward Dean's Smart Drugs and Nutrients books and his center, the Cognitive Enhancement Research Institute. The Erowid online resource should have more about it as well. I cant post URLS cause I am too new here...but youre smart!

I like taking this before meetings, interviews, anytime I need to not be too stumblemouthed in public.

Fifteen drops is my dose, your mileage may vary, read the label. May cause a bit of stiff neck in some the first times or with too high dosages. No headaches or zippiness, though.

Oh, I take TwinLabs liquid extract. Tastes bitter as hell! Ick...makes the gingko tincture I take right afterwards much bettah...

Oh, hey, MindResearcher...I dont ever recall hearing about it raising dopamine levels. Fava beans will do that, but not DMAE as I recall. Where did you learn that? I believe you are wrong on that...no biggie!

My two cents!

I believe all the studies I've seen on DMAE show it to be rather a waste of time. I'll look into this later to get a better feel for it, but that's my vague impression from the research on it I did recently at one point.
