View Full Version : How many of you, ADDers, are overweight? Keppig 02-03-05, 01:16 PM I am reading an ADD book which says many women and men are overweight due to our brains not highwired for appititite statisfaction (Telling us we are full). Your thoughts? Draga 02-03-05, 02:02 PM When ppl ask me what size do I wear...I tell them super size  Actually some medications have caused that lil brain function..Usually when my stomach Is hurtin like hell...time to listen to that teddy 02-03-05, 02:56 PM No excuse is going to change me..BUT I have lost 71pounds to date since last March 2004, and wasn't dxed ADHD till Nov'04 so have a bit farther to go to NOT be over weight...BUt I'm not through working on me yet either! I am a work in progress:) So I voted with my overweightness as my current weight not my original weight(march 2004)--otherwise i would of been in that over 100# line..OUCH!! Guess I didn't realize how destructive I was being to my body and soul. Thank God for this forum.. I'm learning more every day!:) Ian 02-03-05, 03:03 PM I'm back sliding down the scale. Running is helping but moderation at the table is also working. I'm really happy to see some pounds come off again. I don't really have a weight problem but I carry about 20 pounds that I'd rather not run with. Cheers! Ian. Keppig 02-03-05, 03:33 PM I'm curious Teddy, how did you lose it? teddy 02-03-05, 04:14 PM Kassie~ I hate diets! I have felt like I always battled the fat bulge I think except actually I was never to overweight till after I had my last son..and then some more emotional episodes of just letting myself go off the deep end..:( after another failed marriage. Anyway what jumpstarted me on this diet was..I had been sick for about a week and had to finally go to the doctor and then a return visit..and I had actually lost a couple pounds over that week..and that was my jumpstart..never really thought "Today is the day i start a new life change"..just started to cut back, started walking 5 miles a day ..not all at once..about 2.5 miles and then up to 5 miles within couple weeks and cutting back ..pretty much No bread, no starch, no sugar.......and then went from regular soda to diet coke.. this did NOT all happen at once..this has been gradual.. over the last almost year and I still splurge....just not to excess....So to sum it all up...CUT BACK..smaller portions... and Don't cheat yourself out of temptations always. spoil yourself..you will do better in long run....Finally at stage in my life..that I "stop" and think about what I am putting into my mouth...I don't want to be FAT anymore.. reality is I am a big girl--so will never be thin, thin BUT do not want to ever see that almost 300# mark again on the scale either..:( I am 5'9". i can't believe i just devulged all that info..LOL --if it is inspirational to someone else I have done well for TODAY~ take it one day at a time.~ thats my best information to weight loss:). Just like an alcholic.. food is my addiction :( I will always have to keep this addiction at bay...Life change for me.. and I am single again..and am attracting all kinds of people... Its a great feeling!! I am so proud to say that My favorite jeans are Ralph Lauren ..and I am down from 22w to 14w and they are getting baggy. YEAHH!!!! Count that ladies..that's 5 SIZES down...... Good Luck! ArcangelDurango 02-03-05, 10:34 PM I just read that one of the reasons ADDieters have problems is that we're unable to stick with it once the beginning shine has worn off (sound familiar)? However, I think this is the problem with most overweight people, not just ADD people. What do you guys think? Draga 02-03-05, 11:02 PM  way too familiar...*puts away chips* auntchris 02-03-05, 11:52 PM you guys are going to hate me but I just lost 8. Iwas at the drs and they weight ya...well i was sick to for 2 weeks and didnt know it. auntchris RhapsodyInBlue 02-04-05, 02:24 AM Not overweight at all, and neither is Andrei. If anything, I frequently don't eat enough:p auntchris 02-04-05, 02:29 AM that is me too Viktoria. I am getting worried too, my mom even noticed it when i was over for my nieces birthday a wk ago. It is hard for me to eat when depressed or really busy dont know why... auntchris RhapsodyInBlue 02-04-05, 02:52 AM Same here, but it has nothing to do with depression for me. I'm just not into food. I love cooking, but rarely do I find eating a real great thing to do. I'm strange:D But if I am really busy, I often don't bother to eat, and Andrei nags me to eat! Andrei can eat like a horse [I'd love to say, pig:D] and apart from some weight he gained though medication change, he never gets overweight....I guess we are all different, Chris :) Scattered 02-04-05, 03:20 AM Yeah, I'm not overweight either -- a tad on the too thin side at the moment. I don't know if going on meds will change that. I lose weight when I'm depressed big time. When I'm real interested in something I frequently forget to eat too. Otherwise have a pretty big appetite but I a bit of a health nut (no meat except chicken or turkey occasionally?), and very very very little sugar, dairy, eggs, wheat, etc., since they seems to make my AD/HD and mood swings worse. Scattered cameron 02-04-05, 01:30 PM keepig, do you believe everything in all books? that's ridculous saying that ADDers are overweight! myself? 35 and 8-10 percent body weight. Watch what I eat and workout with weights, that's it. No cardio for me! oh yeah, besides Basketball occassionally. cameron 02-04-05, 01:37 PM Scattered, you sound a bit like me...I try to avoid sugar during the week(sometiems i eat carrot cake at night, in moderation..haha)....BUT, I do have sugar binges on the weekend(usaully on Saturday) I really like sugary foods, and its hard for me to now eat a lot of sugary stuff, but for the most part I do(95 percent of the time)...I also only mainly eat chicken and fish and have recently started eating turkey. I eat a lot of fruit, vegtables, protein and fiber foods.. my advice for those trying to lose weight is to eat 4-5 small meals a day, every 2-3 hours. That should do the trick...plenty of lean protein, fiber and vegtables and you should see the weight diminish. auntchris 02-06-05, 12:23 AM I am alot like all of ya I try to eat healthy when I eat. My depression get to me and when I am depressed I dont eat at least not a lot. I have lost 8 pounds in a week at times. I know I have to eat cuz of all my meds other than ADHD but it is hard. To my meds have the side effect of loss of appetite. I do eat when i get hungry. auntchris meadd823 02-07-05, 12:18 AM I have always been on the thin side. I am now around my "normal" range I guess because I am over fourty. I can't eat when I am upset, or excited, depressed. When I do eat I stop when I no longer feel hungery. One the other hand I am hypoglycenia because I ingnore the feeling of hunger. I am hyperactive and have to move Around frequently. I can not have a job where I have to sit despite the fact I am on medications. The medications actually allow me to realize I am hungry before I get the shakes. They also allow me to acknowledge I feel irritable when ever I sit still too long. KnittingJunkie 02-19-05, 10:53 AM I wasn't really overweight, but a few months ago, my doc wanted to get me from the "high end of normal" to the "mid to low end" for--what, seizure stuff? This was before the ADD theory/experiment about my memory junk. Lost some weight...not a ton...gained most of it (8 lbs) back after Christmas:rolleyes: Don't know why, but the ADD meds...I'm eating, I even set an alarm on my phone to make sure I ate. But I'm losing weight fast enough to where the doc (neuroshrink) saw me and immediately weighed me. We think it will even out. Still messin' with the dose. (And switched the manufacturer of generic Dex.) Sorry if this whole "I'm losing weight" thing is making y'all mad, but...I swear, my boobs are disappearing. I think my husband's getting kind of bummed! Chrys |
