I've had ADD since I was a child but as I have gotten older have realized I think I need some medication...disorganization etc all the symptoms are worse. I am scared to go the stimulant route and was wondering if anyone ever tried Clonidine by itself and if that helped.

Thanks

Why are you scared of stimulants? So long as you don't have a heart condition and you take them properly, they're safe.

I don't know about taking Clonidine alone for treating ADHD - I take it to deal with my insomnia. Getting enough sleep is helpful for managing my ADHD, but I'm not sure it would do the trick by itself.

Question for you Kaimei. I have just started my almost 6yo on catapres for his sleeping and I would like to know how it feels? We were told to give it to him one hour before bed. It works for him within 45-50mins but he looks totally out of it. We're not sure if its the right thing for him but would like people with experience using it to tell me what a typical reaction is on i, as my son cannot explain it to us.

Thank you

I have tried Clonidine.

It helped quiet my mind, I used to take it to help me sleep at night. Helped a lot. The racing mind is one of my main issues so yeah if you've got that it helps.

I have known of a few other who have tried Clonidine also and have had fairly good luck with it. They have taken it at night and have said the same thing BllaVita has said as far as quieting the brain and being able to relax so they could sleep better.
Lisa here is a link for side effects of Clonidine which really don't look to bad, But everyone is different on how they react to drugs. http://www.pharmacydrugguide.com/Clonidine_Side_Effects

Kapway is the name brand as you will see on that page used for treatment of ADHD. I will give you the link for it. http://www.pharmacydrugguide.com/Kapvay I saw a page for coupons it. 2 pills a day for a month 160.00. Ouch. There is some type of savings card through the company though. http://www.pharmacydrugguide.com/Kapvay_Coupons So the 160.00 must be after the 6 month savings program if I am reading it right? Another thank goodness there is a generic drug!

I am thinking about suggesting Clonidine to my pdoc. Would it inhibit effects of Adderall? I just need something to quiet my brain at night.
