I don't expect anyone to condone/facilitate the improper use of extended release drugs, but...

Is breaking the balls of time release coating in adderall xr capsules not recommended for any reason other than increased possibility of dependence? I'm prescribed to the regular 20 mg generics, but I'm out and have a midterm due on thursday, so I got 2 30 mg xrs from a friend. I have enough trouble with irritablity and sleep after taking mine, and this seems to be even worse with the xr. If I am accustomed to taking non-extended release adderall, does anyone see a problem with breaking up the contents of the xr capsule and taking that?

If you are going to crush the beads and swallow them there is nothing that I know of that would cause problems - the coating will dissolve in your gut as before. This strikes me as a bad idea, however. The powdered pill will disolve more quickly in the stomach than you are used to - except for the beads that don't get crushed - and it will be difficult to take. You would be much smarter to get a refill of your prescription before your exam, not share medication with others and use the medication in the manner for which it was designed.
If you are planning to snort crushed Adderall XR beads you should think again - apart from being dangerous, the inhalation of the outer coating of the beads would be very bad for you as they are designed to be digested in the intestines, so they would not simply disolve.

Don't get all presumptuous. Just because I considered taking something other than as instructed doesn't mean I'm about to insufflate something that is obviously meant to be taken orally. And sharing medication doesn't seem out of line when its not very far removed from what I'm already on.

I get nervous any time I hear of someone crushing pills - plus I don't want to give anyone else who might be reading this forum the idea that the coating is harmless since there are people out there who might think it a clever idea to crush and snort Adderall XR. Didn't mean to offend you.
