Hi

First of all I wanted to say hello to everyone as I'm new here!

I'm a 44 year old male....I've not actually been diagnosed but have all the symptons of ADHD and it's in the last few months I've began to realise this has been the cause of my problems all along.

I've been to my GP to try and get a referral to a specialist on the National Health Service, although he was kind enough to make a referral I haven't heard back and my GP says there's a chance I won't be seen given the funding and other issues in this area of the NHS.

I was hoping to get medication but if I can't because I can't get seen by a specialist that can prescribe it I wanted to ask the following:

Has anyone taken Mucuna Pruriens or L-Tyrosine so as to enhance dopamine production in the brain and lead to better ability to stay focused and un distracted with what you are doing. Essentially an alternative to ritalin or the other prescribed drugs.

Would be grateful for any advice.

Again, i'm a newbie to this - though diagnosed long ago...anyway I'd call your GP back...i'm a bit of bugger....speaking as nicely as you can short and sweet ask what would he do if he were you? Then shut up and listen ........that could mean a very long pregnant pause but don't say a word...wait for the answer....my advice from years in 'management' and successfully I might add...sometimes it takes another try with the same GP ...again, i'm not telling you to do this...just putting myself in your shoes admittedly not knowing you and so forth...best of luck.

Hi I appreciate your answer but the fact that I may not get seen by a specialist is another subject really. I was hoping to find out from anyone if Mucuna Pruriens or L-Tyrosine has worked for them. I don't know but maybe I didn't emphasize that enough in my original post.
